(03-09) 04:00 PST Columbus, Ohio -- Ohio State suspended football coach Jim Tressel for two games and fined him $250,000 on Tuesday for violating NCAA rules by failing to notify the school about information he received involving the sale of memorabilia by two players.
The NCAA is investigating and could reject the university's penalties, which also include a public reprimand of Tressel and his public apology, and impose additional sanctions.
Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said he never seriously considered firing Tressel for violating his contract, which specifies that he must immediately report "any" - the word is underlined in the contract - information that pertains to violations of NCAA, Big Ten or Ohio State bylaws and rules

Seriously, what the fuck is this bullshit? Tressle's suspension will certainly be felt when the Buckeye's play two layup homegame's vs the Mid American Conference.

I know, I know, I'm a Trojan alum and homer but c'mon man. USC got fuckin crucified compared to what's happening with other schools now being exposed.

From what I read, the same people who investigated the Reggie Bush fiasco are the same who are in charge of the OSU investigation. This is far from being over. The two game suspension and 250,000 dollar fine were just what were imposed by the school. It has nothing to do with the NCAA invesitgation, which could come down much harder on him.

Heard an audio clip this morning where this reporter asks the OSU prez if he considered firing Tressel, and his response basically was ,"No, I'm just glad he doesn't want to dismiss me." WTF?! At least we know who's running the school.

Yeah, that was a very lame answer for a college president. I think no matter what penalties are given out, this is going to end up being a big embarassement for the vest.

The fine hurts, but the suspension should be based on games within the conference. I can coach those guys to victories over akron and toledo.

I dont think this is over yet. I honestly havent been paying much attention but from the tiny bit i heard it sounds like Tressel basically hid the fact he knew his players sold stuff from the NCAA. if that is true they might come down just as hard if not harder on OSU then they did on USC. And as a Michigan fan i couldnt be happier. This may be just what we needed to get back in the game.

so the players who get caught get 5 games, but the guy that is overseeing it hopes to get 2 games. To me you just have to be downright stupid to impose a 2 game suspension. What you are saying is that you know he is guilty, but am going to put on a little penalty to influence the NCAA. You would be a lot better off to act like you don't know anything about it. Also I'm sure that comment by the president sure helps it look like there is institutional control lol.

Maybe their loud mouth president should clean up his program and worry about winning a game after the regular season instead of spouting off about TCU and Boise State.

Relax, 3P. This is far from over. The sanctions OSU imposed on themselves were only self-imposed. It's the equivalent of a defendant telling the judge after he's convicted of murder "No need to send me to prison, your honor...I've already signed up to do two weeks worth of community service as punishment!"

That's a pretty good read on the situation. The NCAA hasn't had their say yet, and they will soon enough. I have a very hard time believing they will say "Let's just forget the whole thing..." after it is now proven JT lied to them.

So ... are you saying OSU's gonna get a slap on the wrist when it's all said and done?

im saying its gonna get a lot worse for USC very soon. its far from over. i really expect a show-cause order for Kiffin

as for OSU, i think Clay Travis is a lil extreme as usual (his pt 7 is dead on though).

personally, i think Tressel will be out of a job and OSU vacates some wins from 2010 and not much else. so you could call that a slap on the wrist, but i really dont see the big deal with some tatoos and gear anyway, its not like the huge sums of cash Reggie Bush was gettin. OSU will hire Gruden or Meyer or some big ,BIG name and keep on truckin as a top 15, but not quite top 5 program as usual. theres just too much talent in ohio and no other schools to fight with really. the culture in the state is hard to explain but they wont ever fall off the map. USC will recover also, for much the same reasons but they will have the stigma after the dust settles (which has crippled Miami for years) and they lack the established statewide passion and monopoly that the Buckeyes have so there could be some very lean years ahead for the USC.

OSU decided to let the vest coach spring practice but suspended him for the first 2 games against those noted football powers Akron and the New Jersey School of the Directionally Impaired.

And the kids are suspended for five games.

This is such a fvcking joke...
