Definitely not a parent.

This was one of the reasons for the fallout between me and my last girl.

She let her mother control her entire life and make all of her decisions for her.

Getting opinions is ok, but in the end one has to come to their own conclusions and make their final decisions individually because only you know what's best for yourself, what you really want, and what makes you happy...

Make decisions by yourself. Nobody should tell you what to do.

when im going through a rough patch or am really stressed about stuff (which i am right now) i will talk to every person in my life that is close to me. That list includes about 4 really close friends, mother, father and step mother. Fact is the ultimate decicion is on me but i like the input from other people, especially when its about stuff i know they have been through before.

My Attorney - seriously. One of my best friends. Awesome dude and a little older little wiser. (Only 5 years older) Graduated Yale and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. If not him....my Dad.

Try to figure it out by myself, but on some occasions I like to ask my father for his opinion...doesn't necessarilly mean, that I agree with him and follow his advice, but it never hurts to get a different point of view on certain things, if you want to make a good decision. Other than that, maybe a friend, if I thought he might have experience in that area and could provide helpful insight or I might even ask my sister for advice if it was some medical issue...pretty much depends on the subject I'd like to get input on.
But it's just to gather information, in the end I must feel comfortable with the decision I'm going to make, so nobody else is going to make the decision for me.

Go to a source that knows the subject matter well. Nor it matter that it be a person or a site you got from using google search or perhaps your own self after some soul searching.

So, let's say you are having some issues with your girlfriend or wife. Go pay a counselor? Google it? I guess you could ask someone you know that has been in a long term relationship or marriage. Pretty broad question to provide with a blanket answer imo.
