Hey fellas,

Hoping someone has had a similar situation. I've been trying to use my wireless adapter NETGEAR WPN111 connected via USB on Windows 7.

* I can get online
* I can browse the internet
* Can't download for shit...it starts off guns a blazing...then stops after just a few K into the download...using sites such as Hotfile, Filesonic, etc.
* Fileserve files work fine to download.

I tried changing the power supply options on USB & didn't work. Signal appears ok...i have 3 bars...and browse at perfect speed.

Does anyone have any great ideas on why it fizzles out when I try to download files? Shoukld I just buy a new adapter?

Check out that the link you have setup for your files to download too is a folder that actually exists.

Tried this...still gets to 3% of a file download...then fizzles out.

Jake...yes i've tried downloading direct files...plus i've used jdownloader for all my files in the past. Just decided to switch over to wireless in my place, and it just doesn't like to download host files (everyone except fileserve). It's very strange.

funny thing is...it downloaded the latest driver setup from Netgear at about 320k and lasted the whole download. So, it can't be a signal thing?

Hmm..maybe it's a security issue..have you tried calling netgear? How did you set it up when you got it?

Is this happening for everything you download?

Run a test real quick and tell how how fast you're downloading.

NOt everything, but the majority of hosted file sites...can't download from hotfile, filesonic, megaupload, etc. I can download from fileserve...and just downloaded from the netgear website. But everything else, I can't even download setup/exe download files. Starts, but almost stops instantly after only a few K downloaded.

Download speed: 2.84 mbps

I would just reset the router. I have a dlink that shits the bed for no reason every once in a while and I have to reset it to get it working again.

It's sounds to me like some sort of security setting for certain websites. The easiest thing to do is call netgear?.. Or check your firewall and make sure the sites your downloading from are trusted and if not you'll have to change your firewall settings

tried resetting the router...didn't work either...i'm wondering if its just a hardware issue with the old router. I've been changing the settings in every attempt to get downloads to work.

I think BigAl is on the right track...just that I'm a certified moron, most likely.

I setup a static ip on my system, just don't know how to handle the port forwarding part. My router is an old Linksys WRT54G. I'm pretty sure the router is the problem. I can't even play youtube videos past a few seconds.
