What items should be increasing because of the tsunami ?

I'm thinking base metals for reconstruction will be in high demand for quite a few years to come.

steel, copper, aluminum, nickel, etc.

any other stuff come to mind ?

lumber also. Most of the wood I have bought recently seems to be from sweeden.

lumber is good, I thought Mi wood get that from Canada ?

I was kind of expecting FH to come in say corn, soybeans, etc....not that I would disagree. Some sort of foodstuffs ( Rice ? ) could be in short supply. I suppose you eat anything you can get after this, MRE's might not be popular in Japan, but I'd sure eat them if I was there.

but on the same train of thought , I wonder how much Japan's industrial output will decrease as their factories may have been damaged or they have to focus on reconstruction (meaning their demand for many things will also decrease)

I can't answer that , good question ! I have little to compare it to. It seems the demand will be there, but will the money be there ?

It might be tough to get a real new honda car ( built in Japan) for a long time. I'd never buy one built by Americans. Might as fell buy a chevy or Ford then !
