I know everyone is focused on the Final Four right now, but is anyone thinking about baseball? I don't really follow hoops and think it's difficult to bet.

Any good baseball cappers out there? Suggested books for the upcoming seaon?

Thanks!

Been thinking about it for a month... Not 100% sure on a good book though. I stick to my normal places. Hopefully someone can weigh-in with some advice on that subject.

I won good money the last 2 seasons on Baseball Formula's underdog picks and on betting underdog parlays. When Baseball Formula got on a real hot streak, I would turn around and fade their picks for a week or so, then get back on underdogs.

For baseball underdog parlays, I use a +1.5 runline for a really long dog (like those at Fenway or NYY)

I also make a rule to never lay more than -160 on a favorite.

How about the site sponsor, Accuscore Picks?

Anyone ever use them? Looks like some pretty in depth analysis. Might be a good supplement.

Thinking about giving the mlbbreaker.com a shot too. Betting basketball just seems like a crapshoot to me. Can't wait for opening day. I can smell the freshly cut grass!!!!!

For decades I have always waited until around June 1st to begin capping bases. Just my style as I like some very recent statistical on the field history to use when evaluating teams and especially starting pitching.. To each his own though...

Best of luck this season to all, wilheim

Fan reaction: MLB 2011 Opening Day on a Thursday is a fantastic idea

If Major League Baseball wanted to get more bang for its buck, moving Opening Day 2011 to Thursday, March 31 was brilliant. For the first time since 1976, MLB will start on a Thursday in order to ensure the World Series isn't play in November.

Here's why I like the idea of Major League Baseball starting on Thursday and finishing earlier:

More Television Ratings
The more television ratings teams get, the more revenue they have from baseball. To me, it doesn't matter when or how the teams start—Opening Day has a magic all its own. A Thursday in late March is perfect—men's basketball won't start playing until Saturday for the Final Four. Major League Baseball can showcase a few games before the entire league starts in the action and get more ratings with national broadcasts when they showcase a few players.

I would rather see every team play its first game on the same day. But I understand why baseball features a select few to start off the season, because it's all about ratings.

Competition
Baseball competes for fan dollars with the NBA and NHL at the start of the season. Hockey and basketball are winding down to the playoffs while Major League Baseball is just starting. The difference is more markets are excited about the start of a season rather than one winding down.

Fewer people are going to care about bottom-level NHL or NBA teams in late March and early April because interest for a playoff run has already waned. On the other hand, every major league team is ready to go and has a chance to make the World Series at the start of the season.

Football also becomes a factor in November. Excitement builds towards the Super Bowl and the cold-weather sports such as basketball beginning. MLB was wise to get their business done by October before fans concentrate on other sports.

Weather
November is cold. No one wants to sit outside in Minnesota, Detroit, New York, Boston or Seattle in November for a World Series. If you have a Marlins-Rays World Series then you can schedule those games any time of year and you'll have warmth. But the reality is some nasty weather can effect the United States in November so it behooves MLB to keep the World Series in October. The World Series will get high ratings no matter when it is held.

Baseball is not a cold-weather sport. They're called the boys of summer for a reason. Until there are nothing but domed stadiums, hosting a baseball game in November is downright chilly. Luckily there are no teams in Alaska.

I don't really think it matters when Major League Baseball starts. The league will get their ratings and huge revenue streams. Just bring on the baseball.

William Browning is a fan of Missouri State University athletics after living in the area 15 years. Born in St. Louis, he is a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and a transplanted KC Chiefs fan. He currently resides in Branson.

I see for the World Series scheduling.

I like it though. If you want you can take off that Friday for opening day(if your team isn't playing on Thursday) and make it a long weekend.

Just got book 1 of baseball's international rotation, from Don's best. I always get excited when the new rotation guide comes out on a new season. It's getting close.

I'm with you and others who choose to wait just a little bit before starting their baseball betting season.
Over the years I have usually started my baseball capping season either on the last weekend of April/first week of May.
There have been a few seasons where I even waited until the last weekend of May/first week of June to make that first wager.

Dude,

Yeah, I see the guy accepts payment through Paypal. Does that mean I should avoid anyone that only accepts payments through Paypal? Is there a difference?

Thanks.
