OT- what is the cheapest, simplest? MINIlap top or similar machine to surf internet at coffee shops, do simple operations email etc.?

Thinking of a gift idea, allow a new 'computer' user to use the internet at WIFI locations..cheap, small, simple....

is a minilap top the way to go?

Has to run google chrome or internet explorer as a real browser..not like a PDA browser..

Honestly, go to amazon and just use the most popular search is probably the best suggestion. Asus makes many nice netbooks, I just got a toshiba nb505 and it runs well. But I don't think you can really go wrong, if you want one that runs windows.

A dell netbook is CHEAP or you an get an ipad for like $200 if you look around.

349 toshibia at best buy .... awesome machine for so cheap I have 2 got my daughter one for college she has a 3.93 GPA using it so it works good

Those are nice machines (can't beat it for the $), but you can get something for 100-150 cheaper that does what he wants.
