Houston police arrested suspended Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly on narcotics charges early Friday after he was stopped for having overly tinted car windows, authorities.
About 12:45 a.m., HPD officers pulled alongside a Cadillac Escalade with blacked-out windows in the 9900 block of Westpark.
"The officers could not even see inside the vehicle," said HPD spokesman John Cannon.
That gave the officers probable cause to further investigate, police said.
Jolly, 28, handed them a Texas identification card instead of his driver's license which had been suspended in 2007.
The officers then spotted a large bottle containing about 600 grams of codeine under the passenger seat. The label on the sealed bottle had been scratched off, officials said.
The officers also found a second bottle containing an unknown substance in the driver's side door.
Jolly was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
A male passenger in the Escalade was released at the scene without charges, HPD officials said.
In 2008, Jolly was arrested on narcotics charges in another codeine possession case. Last August, he entered a probation program, which included community service and drug tests, that would have resulted in the charge being dismissed if he kept out of trouble for a year.
The lawyer who represented Jolly in the earlier case could not be reached for comment Friday on what impact the latest arrest may have on the probation agreement.
Later Friday, Jolly was being held without bail at the Harris County Jail.
Jolly is a Houston resident who played football at Forest Brook High School and Texas A&M.
He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2006 and made his first NFL start the next year against the Philadelphia Eagles.
