I've misplaced the darn Verizon instruction book I received last week when I installed a new router in my office.

I can go ask the guys at Verizon store on Monday, but hope someone here can help sooner

I primarily just use the ethernet connection to run my laptop here in back room office but want to take it out to living room using wireless

How do I get the laptop to recognize my router (which yes, has a wireless function)?

I've downloaded and installed the verizon wireless software, but when I disconnect ethernet and look for wireless networks, the short list (of Secure networks within range) does not include my own router.

TIA for directions

If you have the same Verizon router that I have it's pretty easy... the WEP Key is on a label on the back of the router. Set up a new internet connection and use the WEP Key to connect.

So your wireless router is turned on and the computer is searching and can not find it? As long as the router is on and searching-usually a button there- it should be able to find it

yea, if the router is on and your laptop isn't finding it than the router probably is'nt broadcasting it's name (this way others can't see it - it's a quasi-security feature). I assume the router has a hardware reset switch (push a pen/needle into a small hole on the back probably?). Do that, then hopefully in it's default state it'll broadcast it's name and you can find it.

OR, when the laptop is hardwired in, look at what your default gateway is set to (probably like, 192.168.0.1) and put that in your web browser... that ought to get you into the config for the router and you can check out all the settings..

I'm An Idiot

(interested forum readers can bookmark this post along with the many other times I made this confession)

In fact, my router WAS listed....But using a distinct six character code, rather than "verizon" etc....and I was too dim to examine the router closely at same time as list was displayed approximately 24" to the right.

Once again, I have proved that sticking your face out at the Rx to look foolish can lead to many Solutions In Life

thanks to those who responded

You might need to update the firmware on your network adapter on your laptop so it recognize the new routers being sold today.
