What do you measure success by in this life?

Money? WINNNG?

Helping other people?

Answer honestly and then self reflect.

Would we all get our priorities straight if we answered honestly???

I measure success by results. If you achieve the desired results then you are a success.

Being debt free other than house. Owe about 12k on the wife car, my clunker is paid for, and have about $500 in credit card debt. I pay it off and run it back up. That's my only credit card though. I can't stand ppl who finance everything they "own" and act like high rollers

So once you pay this all off and are debt free, you will consider your life on this Earth a success?

What results are you trying to achieve?
It really depends, cause there are different aspects to my life. In my business life, success means increasing sales, in my sports gambling, I consider having a 3% ROI a success. Then there's my children which consist of so many little things that have to be done right, with the ultimate goal of them being better off than I am. I'd say that my children being better off than I am is the ultimate result I'm looking for, but it always starts with little goals. Set a goal and achieve it. While right now in sports gambling my goal is to maintain a 3% ROI, If in five years I achieve that I will be retiring early and making it my full time gig, which is the long term goal

Yea, I haven't really thought about it....but I guess so. I just bought my first house last year, so unless I run into some $, I have 23 yrs before I'm debt free. I'd like to be able to do whatever the Hell I want, when I want when I get older. I'm 28, married and have a one yr old daughter. The wife isn't working for a few yrs, so we are trying to be smart financially for now

Waking up every morning and looking forward to the new day. Also if I can make my family's lives better/happier and not stressful or worse.

That's all I care about.

How would you measure your children being, "better off than you?" Are you speaking strictly in terms of financial well being?

I'm rather selfish in that department:
Maybe my values change again in the future, but right now I'd see my life as a success, if I was able to make enough money by sportsbetting and with some related stuff. I don't need the money because I wanted to buy some stuff, actually I got rid of pretty much anything except my laptop and ipod, some clothes (and bought a bicycle and surfboard down here).
But I need the money because it enabled me to comfortably live my life here in CR the way I want, without worrying about my finances or having to work my stupid office job in Germany ever again. So I could just spend my time doing the things I always wanted to do like doing sports (esp. surfing), learning foreign languages, do some travelling at times, spend times with my friends/family (=the people I care about) and also spend some of my time volunteering in some local projects (which is a much more rewarding work than my old office job and therefore my time spent feels much sensible).
In short: I consider my life a success if I'm healthy and can enjoy my life.

Thx. Had you asked me like 5-6 yrs ago, my answer would probably have included many things like a house, fancy sports car or carve out a great career in my job....things I today couldn't value much less. I guess sometimes you just need a wake-up call to straighten out your values and to realize, what's really important in life. :103631605
