I basically fit the bill (42) and married since '98, but in a much different way than most guys as I travel a ton for business so I'm gone 100+ days a year anyway.
I look at it that when I am home on the weekends I need to spend my time with the kids - they deserve it with me being gone so much.
If I really, really want to get away I'm "allowed", however I rarely pull that card. I tend to go fishing the weekend after Thanksgiving day as I fly down to Florida that Friday AM, get on a charter boat sometime Friday night and fish til Sunday AM, when we steam back to port and I catch a flight back home shortly after getting back to shore.
I've also done a few fishing weeks with some of the guys where I've gone to far northern Canada and spent a week fishing. That's a bit too long right now to be away from the kids.
Now, If I didn't travel, I would have no problem taking both the fishing breaks. On the other hand, the wife is free to take any weekends away with the girlfriends (Toronto or New York City normally) that she wants, as long as it doesn't involve me having to miss one of my work trips that I have to take.
I also find that as I've gotten older, I have littel to no desire to go to the Bills or Sabres games. The only game I've gone to (locally) is the when the Bandits (our pro lacrosse team) went to the championship game (and won it, unlike all the other Buffalo sports teams). I've got a nice TV setup that I've had for years. Heck, instead of going to the games I would rather save up and buy a better recliner than what I have today.
Now work is a different matter. I've seen about 15 baseball games over the last few years when I've been traveling. I just did a spring training game a few weeks ago San Fran v Cincy in a grapefruit league game that was nice. The majority of the games I've seen have been with clients, though a few were just by myself.
