does anybody else think this team is better then people give them credit for? now im a met fan but at the beggining of the season i thought we would contend with the nationals for last place. After watching a few games im seeing a few things i really like and while i know its early i believe we have a chance to possibly finish 2nd in the division, probably a long shot but possible and heres why
1) to me chris young was a huge question commin into this season.People forget the guy had ace potential and stuff and his biggest problem was injuries. well watching him this spring and in his first game hes looked pretty damn good and healthy.
2)Niese, was one of my sleepers for fantasy and the only met i really wanted on my roster. i think the guy has the potential(with alittle offensive help) to win 15 games have a era under 3.8 and k over 160 guys. Those are pretty damn good stats
3) Ike Davis and Josh Thole(two of my favorite Mets) ike davis while only in his 2nd year has the potential to be a pretty big bat in the line up. Thole our 8th hitter may lack power but will hit around .300 and out of your catcher in the 8th spot you cant ask for much more.
4)LUIS CASTILLO IS NO LONGER OUR 2B!!! and thank god for that. This kid emaus is actually pretty decent and a huge step up from castillo. Personally i wanted murphy to win the battle as it would really boost our line up but murphy will get alot of AB's all over
5)Terry collins is way better then jerry manual. what i really loved was the aggressiveness in his style. wright was up with reyes and pagan on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs and we run a double steal to put them both in scoring position. to me the mets need to take risks like this vs teams like the phillies if we wanna be successful. our stadium and team is designed for speed and we should take advantage of the speed at the top of our lineup.
6)bench and bullpen...our bench has been upgraded no doubt about it, harris, hairston, duda, murphy sounds alot better then half the no names we had last year. and we still have a top 10 closer with parnell(another player i really like) and a few other decent options.
7)health...jason bay, can he really not hit 10 hrs this season lol i think he bounces back to be an average option in the OF at worst with 20 hrs 80 rbis maybe, at better then last year if he can reach those. Beltran, the guy kinda looks like a shell of himself i mean his speed is completly gone, but remember he hasnt played ball in 2 years. the guy will come along to at least put up some power and drive in some runs. Reyes, in his contract year and he seems healthy enough. Reyes is still a top 5 ss and with a decent year according to his standards we have the 3rd best ss in baseball.
with that being said i think i may take the Mets at +175 vs Halladay as i think its a great value. Niese can shut down the phillies line up and the mets are hot right now and im sure if we get on well do what we can to steal and give ourselfs opportunitys to score....would love some opinions
