WICHITA, Kan. -- A former consultant for the University of Kansas has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for his part in a $2 million ticket scalping conspiracy that he helped to conceal.
U.S. District Judge Wesley Brown rejected a defense plea for leniency Monday as he sentenced Thomas Blubaugh to the 46-month term sought by prosecutors. He also ordered Blubaugh to pay more than $1.1 million in restitution to the university and the Internal Revenue Service.
Blubaugh showed little emotion as the sentence was pronounced. He read a short statement expressing remorse and saying he offered no excuse. He said his actions will leave his children with an embarrassing legacy that will follow them all their lives.
His wife, Charlette, faces sentencing Thursday for her role in the scheme.
