In a move likely to cause confusion and amusement for years to come, the Phoenix Mercury on Monday picked the lesser known Brittany Spears as their second round pick (19th overall) in the WNBA draft.
The University of Colorado guard's name is so similar to the more famous pop star's that it is already causing trouble in the fast-paced world of Twitter.
The topic #brittanyspears was already trending late Monday -- but it didn't seem to be basketball fans sending the twittersphere into a frenzy.
User briannarutledge said: "#itssadwhen a trending topic is #brittanyspears. and they dont even speell her damn name right."
While charl_collier said, "Why is #brittanyspears trending? I'm sure her name is #britneyspears."
