I think substituting "favorite" for "best" is a much better choice considering how subjective actors and directors are in terms of personal best.

My list, and I'm going to exclude Scorcese because he should go without saying:

David Fincher: The Social Network, Fight Club, Se7en, Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Game

David Gordon Green: George Washington, Undertow, Snow Angels, Pineapple Express

Darron Aronofsky: Black Swan, The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream, Pi

Paul Thomas Anderson: There Will be Blood, Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, Boogie Nights

Also really like Christopher Nolan and David Lynch.

Probably Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Spielberg is still great but when is the last time he did anything great.

People liked that piece of crap There Will Be Blood? Talk about overhyped piece of crap. I hate most of the guys on your list.

While I like a good bit of his movies, I tend to steer toward directors who take some risks in their careers. Howard is a bland, by-the-books director and his actors make his movies far better than they should be. In my humble opinion.

I enjoy Tarantino as well though I felt Inglorious Basterds (While a fun little film) wasn't up to par as past efforts outside of Christoph Waltz.

To each their own but some people prefer slower, character-driven stories that relay a real message. Films that mirror art.

Also, forget to mention, LOVE Chan-Wook Park. Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance are three of the greatest revenge films of all time.

My favorite director ever: Stanley Kubrick.

Ben Affleck has come out of the gate running with his first two directed films Gone Baby Gone and The Town. I really enjoyed both of those movies.

Shit, can't believe I forgot the Coen's. Another of my tops, for sure. Also believe Affleck is 2-for-2 so far, GS.
