Neither! You start with a younger star, particularly a catcher like San Francisco's Buster Posey (2010 Rookie Of The Year). A catcher's responsibility is enormous in calling a game and when you get a good one that can also hit and is defensive gem, build the team around him IMHO.
Although I agree that going young is the way to go, would Posey really be the top pick? He doesn't put up huge offensive numbers like these guys and catchers have a limited shelf life. Unless I saw a young catcher putting up monster numbers, I'd go somewhere else personally.

Posey came up last May. Didn't even start the season with the Giants but rather in AAA in Fresno. Once with the Giants, he hit .305 with 406 AB and 18 HR, 23 2B, and 67 RBI's. He will be a consistent .300 hitter his entire career as he has a sweet swing and hits balanced to all fields. He is an exceptional catcher and has a cannon for an arm as he played shortstop in college as well. Johnny Bench even commented that he is the best young catcher he has seen in a generation and Bench was critical to making the Big Red Machine what it was! Posey was the key ingredient to the Giants winning the World Series last year. He managed the pitching staff impecably. Catchers are the quarterbacks of MLB teams.
