I've been having symptoms of urinary infection over the past year... My Dr couldn't pinpoint (diagnose) the issues (that is to say the PA couldn't) I can never get into see my primary. This past Saturday I wake up with alot of pain down by my Colon and had to be rushed to the hospital in massive pain. It turns out I have Diverticulitis. It was so bad the Dr said I was right on the cusp for having emergency surgery. After 9 days in the hospital I'm finally home with a drainage bag, feels good! I have to go for surgery in 6-8 weeks to take out the bad part of the colon. This is a huge wake up call for me. I almost always been a heavy drink and have bad dietary habits; thing's are gonna have to change for me in a huge way.. Does anyone share in my nightmare of having Diverticulitis? I wouldn't wish this shit on my worst enemy. I f anyone else has this and could share some advice or health tips that would be great. I forgot to mentioned that I was very relieved there was no cancer involved..

Had a very close friend of mine go through this recently... he was fortunate not to require surgery. He was given medication, but most importantly a NEW and very strict diet to follow! After everything, he actually looks much better than before it all started. His facial complexion is improved, and he lost a lot of excess weight too. It's like he rejuvenated after it all! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Hey cheater, glad to hear all is well to this point. Good luck with the surgery. My wife and mother in law both have it. There are various degrees like anything else. In law is worse than my wife. Get a diet from your Dr and stick to it. Some Dr's don't agree on exactly what it is or the diet. Some say no nuts or anything with kernels. Hard to digest. My wife's current Dr does not agree about the nuts part but she stays away regardless, just in case. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Staying in the hospital for nine days can often make you sicker than when you came in. Glad you are relatively ok. I know a couple of people who have it and I think the key to staying healthy and feeling good is sticking to whatever diet the doc recommends - not saying it's going to be easy. Once we start feeling good it's amazing how quickly we forget. GL with the surgery.

Hey guys, just got home Saturday. I ended up in the hospital again on Easter Sunday, then got sent home. I then went back to the hospital later that night (in sever pain) and they did another lower CT scan of my stomach and found a huge amount of infection. They performed emergency surgery that day and I spent 9 more days recovering. Doctor said I had the worst build up of bacteria and puss that he's ever seen in a patient. I ended up septic during surgery and also had 2 areas of infection during surgery of which I have 2 half dollar size holes in my stomach and I also have to deal with a colostomy bag for the next 2 months .I have to go back to reverse the Colostomy surgery in 4 months.

If I could give some advice to you guys it woud be to do yourself a favor and get to your doctor and get checked out, it couldn't hurt. 10% of men by age 40 develop Diverticulitis, 50% of men over the age of 50 develop it. You can prevent it by eating healthier; more fiber, fruits veggies etc, etc.. Trust me, you don't want to go through the shit I'm dealing with.
