Just got a puppy last weekend, took him today to get shots, turns out he's got parvo......

I've seen all types of crazy estimates for what it will cost (some saying a couple hundred, others over 1000)....

i don't wanna put him to sleep, but also dont want (and cant) afford to be spending hundreds/thousand dollars to treat, especially if it might not even work. crazy thing is, he seems totally fine, tons of energy, normal stool, etc.

anyways, anyone ever deal with this, what was the outcome?

note: i got him for free, so its not like i can go after who i got him from..

depends how far along he is with the disease. Get the vet to give you an estimate.

I went through that with a Rot puppy a few years ago. If I remember correctly, I shopped around and found the cost to be extremely different from Vet to Vet. I think I paid like 250.00. She perfectly fine now.

I had a Shihtzu puppy who was bad sick for a few days with it but he stayed at the vet and pulled through...

Make sure you ask A LOT of different vets before you make any decisions.

Check with the area shelters too. Some shelters have low-cost vet clinics. Even the ones that don't will be able to recommend a good, reasonably priced vet.

Just had another thought. Being in Raleigh and around all the universities in the area, I would imagine one of them has a vet school. I would check with them too. The vet school at CSU has programs that deal with situations like this, so maybe the schools in NC do too.

Good luck.

No clue on the parvo but best of luck with the situation. I'd donate ya some money if I had any to spare.

they have home remedies and stuff you can buy online for that now. So tough call. If you know a vet or think you can trust one pay them whatever, but be aware that it really isnt all that expensive to treat.

thanks for the input..... gonna make some calls tomorrow, looks like its a lot cheaper to treat than what i was told originally. he doesnt even seem sick whatsoever, he's been sprinting around for the last few hours, gotta give him a chance.

Good Outcome! Now print out today's rotation sheet, put it on the floor and bet the first team he puts his paw on :)

Exactly.
Sound advice, the puppy must live.
