I'm watching the last episode of Law and Order he ever did, my God, this guy was classy.

He knew he was dying, still had a smile on his face.
He was perfect with Jesse L. Martin, ever notice after Orbach died Martin lost interest in the show, mailed in every episode after that?

<Martin>
"What is up with you lately Lenny?"
<Orbach>
"I'm putting in my papers Ed, it's time"

(code for I'm dying of prostate cancer in real life)
I still tear up when I watch that scene.

He even donated his eyes to two people who needed them after death.

Orbach did it all, sang, was a Broadway stage star, did tons of movies.
He was great as the cranky dad in 'Dirty Dancing'

He goes down as one of the greatest cops in TV history with D'Onofrio's Goren, Kojak, Sipowicz, Joe Friday, Steve McGarrett..............

Always thought Orbach was perfect for the role.. He was a really good actor, agree with the other stuff you said as well.
