distance is great, but if the goals weight loss, worry about getting your intensity and heart rate up. I see lots of people running for an hour + at a glorified walks pace when they could burn more calories in 20 minutes if they raised the intensity.

good luck with the 6.1!!

AGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED

i was a personal trainer for 4 years, HIIT is much better than distance

go grab some weights do some light weight high reps, go run on the treadmill do some HIIT 3 times a week, do abs, do circuit training... jogging 6 miles wont do as much as sprinting for 20 minutes doing HIIT and working out, supersets, dropsets, circuit training, pullups, pushups, squats, deads, burn fat more than any distance you run...goodluck

Mlink, this is what I am doing.

I do HIIT for sprints, walk, sprint, etc.....and it only takes me about 30 mins to go through my weight training per session. I'm not looking to get huge, just back to my fighting weight. lol

I already rode my stationary bicycle 15 miles this morning along with some light weight reps and was able to burn at least 300 calories and get some low impact but excellent cardio vascular exercise in without leaving my office..My tee shirt is always soaking wet when I am done.

The entire process from warm up with light weights and stretching, the bike ride and cool down by slow walking around adjacent room takes a little more than an hour plus 10 or 15 minutes for a shower of course. Do this four times a week if you are over 50 and you will start to feel great plus drop that extra belly fat in a few months..Eating a sane low fat, fairly low calorie diet will help quite a bit...

I advise anyone to consult their doctor before beginning a serious exercise/low fat diet regimen just to be on the safe side, especially if you are over 50 (I am 63)..
