DEERFIELD, Ill. -- A day after injuring his left ankle in his team's first playoff loss, Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose arrived at Sunday's film session wearing a walking boot.
Rose did not participate in the shootaround after the team watched film. He is expected to get an MRI on Sunday afternoon and will be re-evaluated by team doctors at that time. The MRI was precautionary, according to Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau.
Rose turned his ankle driving to the basket late in the first quarter. He didn't appear to make contact with any other player.
"I really can't explain it," Rose said Saturday. "I just took off wrong and my weight just pushed over my ankle and it ended up twisting."
Rose had an X-ray following Saturday's loss to the Indiana Pacers, and results were negative.
The general feeling amongst Bulls coaches and players was that Rose would find a way to be on the floor Tuesday night for Game 5.
"He's fine," Thibodeau said. "He's going to have his ankle checked. Hopefully, he'll be ready."
Rose did not complain about any discomfort, although Thibodeau admitted that his 22-year-old point guard probably wouldn't admit to pain anyway.
"We asked him, he says he fine," Thibodeau said. "[Athletic trainer] Fred [Tedeschi] says [Rose] has a little soreness, but he says he's fine."
After watching the tape of Game 4, Thibodeau said he wasn't sure if the ankle injury affected Rose or not.
"It's hard to tell with him," Thibodeau said. "He's so fast. The way he was attacking ... now he didn't finish as well as he normally does. And he didn't get to the line. I thought as a team, we settled for the three too much."
Bulls point guard C.J. Watson was confident Rose would be back.
"I think he's probably, pretty sure, 100 percent going to play," Watson said. "He's probably just a little sore. I'm sure he's going to play on Tuesday, though."
