Uncle Mo's status for the Kentucky Derby will be known by Friday morning, after the colt's owner, trainer and veterinarian study his bloodwork and decide whether he'll enter the Run for the Roses on Saturday.
Uncle Mo galloped on Thursday morning, after which his internist, Dr. Doug Byars, gave the horse his final pre-Derby checkup.
Owner Mike Repole told ESPN's Jeannine Edwards that Byars, Dr. Ken Reed, Dr. Steve Allday and trainer Todd Pletcher were planning a conference call Thursday evening to discuss the results of Uncle Mo's bloodwork.
The colt, last year's 2-year-old champion, is being treated for a gastrointestinal infection, which was blamed for his first-ever defeat in last month's Wood Memorial.
Repole has previously said if Uncle Mo isn't sufficiently recovered, he won't run in the 1¼-mile Derby. Pletcher, however, said Uncle Mo might be able to win even if he's at less than his best.
"But we're committed to bringing him over there at 100 percent, anything less than that, we won't accept," he said Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Uncle Mo drew the No. 18 post, well to the outside, and was listed at 5-1 odds for the 137th running of the Derby. Dialed In, who drew the No. 8 post, was the early 4-1 favorite among the field of 20 3-year-olds.
Ten horses have won from the No. 8 position, most recently 50-1 longshot Mine That Bird two years ago.
Only one horse since 1900 has come out of the No. 18 hole to win -- Gato Del Sol, in 1982.
Repole's other colt, Stay Thirsty, also trained by Pletcher, landed in the No. 4 post and is 20-1 on the morning line set by Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia.
Toby's Corner, the horse that beat Uncle Mo at the Wood Memorial, was removed from Derby consideration Tuesday with left hind leg lameness and has returned to trainer Graham Motion's barn in Maryland.
Extensive veterinary examinations failed to pinpoint the problem.
"He's about the same. I'm none the wiser of what actually caused the problem," Motion said.

ESPN reporter Jeannine Edwards and The Associated Press contributed to this story.
