Got patella femorral syndrome/tendinitis (ive complained about it before on this board) in my knee and wanted to give acupuncture a try because Ive heard good things and studies seem to show it is effective in relieving pain and increasing range of motion/mobility with the knees.

Had a couple of friends try it and were satisfied with the results.

I tried it once, also for a knee problem. It was pleasant and relaxing and I did notice some short-term relief. I don't know how much of it was due to the acupuncture, though, as I was also taking some other steps to try and get my knee feeling better.

I was supposed to go to four or five sessions for the knee, but I kept procrastinating and never got around to the follow-up sessions. I did like the one I had, though.

Patsfan1283, I went through an extensive 3 month three times a week acupuncture treatment procedure about four or five years ago and like poster Your AllAmerican found it relaxing and therapeutic (I was trying to get off blood pressure medicine) but it was temporary and didn't accomplish my goal.

In my case a regular cardio vascular exercise routine, along with a very sane diet complemented with some specific vitamin supplements such as Triple Strength Fish Oil, Flax Seed Oil, and a multivitamin designed for someone my age (63) works much better improving my overall health and wellness much more effectively .

That said, a specific body injury or malady such as tendinitis of a femoral patella is something totally different. I would have no trouble giving acupuncture a shot rather than undergo surgery which would be my last resort.

Best of luck, wilheim

I was in a car accident on Feb 7th and have been getting acupuncture 3 times a week ever since. I have 5 hernitated dics and 8 pintched nerves. I dont really know what to tell you about how good it works. i mean its been over 3 months and my neck still hurts about 14 hours a day.

I decided to bump this thread, as I've pretty much reconsidered my iffy opinion on acupuncture. I'm close to being a full-blown believer now. A few weeks ago I wrenched my neck terribly, and it was giving me an awful lot of trouble. Not only did the whole trapezius and longissimus muscles hurt in a big way, but the strain was giving me constant, very intense headaches. I couldn't sleep more than about an hour at a stretch because lying down on my back or side cranked up the pain.

I've gone to a half-dozen acupuncture sessions now, spaced pretty closely together, and I've noticed a giant difference. Most of the pain is gone and my neck is only slightly stiff. I'm doing other things to try and let my neck heal, so acupuncture doesn't get all the credit, but most of the improvement started after the second acupuncture session. It really seems to have done some real good.

I did more reading up on acupuncture, and it seems like it's hit or miss for a lot of maladies, but for folks with pain, it's definitely worth a shot. I would keep in mind that it'll likely require more than one session, and it seems like it's best not to space the sessions very far apart.

Five years ago I had ancu done for a shoulder/back situation and it worked better than I ever would have thought. Was skeptical going into it but after hearing hundereds of stories, 90% favorable, I finally went ahead with it and was very glad that I did. The one negative in that experiience was that my insurance did not cover so it came from out of pocket. FWIW, would swear I made identical post within fast few years here.

Good post....I think back/shoulder stuff it works better for than knee from what I've heard/read but definitely is worth giving a shot for anything. I wouldn't say it helped me a lot with my knee but a lot of that is because I didn't really follow through a lot with it.
