i am about to deposit some cash in here but at first glancee it looks extremely -EV

For those of you that haven't heard of it before (me before today). You purchase bids for $0.60 and most things go in 1 cent increments. There is a clock (usually about 15 seconds towards the end of the auction) that resets after each bid and it is basically an auction.

been wanting to pick up an xbox....so i was watching it. They say the value was a little over $200 and it sold for about $14.50

the winner was a "bid-o-matic" and they spent 140 bids to get there ($84.00 + $14.50 = $98.50). good deal for the winner....but there were many other people that spent $786 in total that got absolutely nothing.

Obv +EV for one and -EV for many many more. I think overall if we can develop some bidding strategies here we can really scoop up some stuff.

any thoughts or experiences?

There are a few articles on the Web about penny auctions site like QuiBids. The gist of it all, from what I could gather, is that they may be worthwhile if you have a good idea of the fair price of a product and are willing and committed to pay anywhere from about 80 percent to 100 percent of that in order to win the bidding. Unlike eBay where you might put in a lowball offer in hopes that it will win, and don't mind if it doesn't, strategies like that end up costing a lot of money in penny auctions.

I tried beezid once. You never win shit. It's impossible to win and I saw a guy bid 2000 times on a $300 vacuum cleaner. Assuming each bid was $.60 it did not make sense. He spent more trying to win than what it would cost to buy at the store.

Just try it and once you lose a few times you'll realize it's a waste.

my thought process if these items are really going for 80%-90% off retail value then who is losing the money? Somebody has to be losing? right?

Someone is losing money, the bidders.

You have to pay for the bids. There's an xbox right now with over 2000 bids. Do the math if each bid is 60 cents.

these sites are a scam, think they have fake bot accounts that shill for the site, im sure every once in awhile an average joe wins something for like $12 that retails $250, but the site also made like $400 off it if not more. Its like a raffle for a $500 plasma tv and they sell 1000 tickets for $1 each.

I've heard nothing but horror stories about those types of auction sites.

site is definitely raping all of the bidders on cost of bids.

however I'm still naive enough to think proper bidding strategies may equate to a +EV venture here.

the 1,000 $1 raffle tickets for a $500 tv is +EV if you win and only bought 100 tickets

Just try it out and get back to us. At most you lose what? $30.

Don't do the autobid crap if you go for it.
