they now charge sellers a fee based on their shipping cost. They are going to fuck themselves out of a market they dominate with all this nickel & dimming. They basically have a monopoly on auction sites, they own paypal now, and they should have very little over head, yet they just keep jacking up rates. pathetic.

I just sold a Mcintosh receiver for $525 and charged $40 for shipping and eBay/paypal charged me close to $70 in total fees##)

yea it is pretty ridiculous. Best option right now are those fixed listing/make offer auctions. 8% for the first $50, then 5% the rest of the way. I've resorted to those USPS priority boxes and will offer free shipping on the item if i can squeeze it in. Otherwise, the bastard is paying for the ridiculous shipping fees from ups, usps, or fedex.

I use to be a Power Seller, but haven't sold on Ebay for quite sometime. They are greedy. I just sell thru Craigslist only

Ebay is a buyers paradise, and a sellers nightmare.

Yeah the fees are too much, weren't they making enough money as it is? Why fuck the sellers like this?

Wish there was another site that could give them some "serious" competition.

Instead of using Ebay I just post on different cities on Craigslist.

There is rule about not making the same posting in different cities, but the way around it is to make small changes in the body of the post (e.g. change the order of the wording).

Ebay now charges over 8% on their listing fees. And the other reason I got out of selling is I was also having to pay a fee to Paypal after I sold my item. So since Ebay owns Paypal, they were double dipping into my profits..Nuh uh..That's wasn't gonna work with me.

Ebay used to a great place but now it's just a money milker if you plan on selling... Stopped using it 4 or 5 years ago....Huge rip off and now 1099, I am all set with it...

I thought they changed it to no fee on items not sold and raised the fee on items sold.
I think this is a good trade if true.

The problem with the free listing fees is these $0.00 fees also have a final value fee per listing of 8.75% or $20, whichever is lower. Additional listings within the 30 day period that they give to you are subject to the following insertion fees and final value fees. So you will pay 9% up to $200 on your first 5 items sold if they are free listings. In other words, your first 5 sales for that month. The smartest thing to do in this case is to just sell some of your least valued items first within this period, then you'll only pay half on what you are really trying to sell. There's supposedly a few other ways to get around the listing fees, but it's all a hassle...Just remember before listing anything on Ebay that there is a listing fee, which is based on how much you list the item...and there is a final value fee, based on the price you sold it for. This is what happens when you have a monopoly on everybody else. If Ebay had some legitimate competetion, this wouldn't be happening.

So is Ebay attempting to get sellers to list items real low with NR?

I could see how this would make me want to start an auction at .01 with no reserve to save on the listing fee.
This would also create more sales for the back end fees because you would have less auctions end with no sales.

So EBAY is letting you save money on the listing but getting it back on the back end of the sale.

Yes, the back end is where they are going to make their sure profits. Since I've been out of this for awhile, I wasn't sure how this back end fee relates to the new shipping cost fee that was brought up in the first post of this thread. Here is a link to their newest "final value" shipping fees.

Ebay's costs have not gone up but they keep bleeding the sellers. They have an outright monopoly on what they do. No auction site can compete with them.
In almost any other Internet endeavor others have entered the marketplace to create healthy competition. If Ebay has 20 million eyeballs, just a conjecture.
I don't know how many members or viewers their auctions have. Why would one go to another site. If you are seller you have a smaller chance to sell your item. If your a buyer you have less competing sellers resulting in a higher price. Ebay was brilliant. They were the game starter. They hit the ground running and became an Internet survivor. As far as them getting fees on shipping they were forced to do it. Sellers cleverly were pricing their items low and charging high shipping and handling fees which they didn't have to pay sellers fees on.
