An ATM serviceman was caught red-handed swapping $200,000 in counterfeit bills for cold hard cash in the San Francisco area.
Samuel Kioskli, 64, of San Francisco, had a warrant for his arrest when he was nabbed at a traffic stop in Phoenix, Arizona on May 11th--ten months after he allegedly committed the string of thefts, said San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The bumbling bandit was an employee of Diebold, which services and repairs ATMs for Bank of America.
Nabbed: Samuel Kioski was on the run for stealing $200,000 from Several ATMs in the San Francisco Area when it was discovered that he had a warrant out for his arrest during a routine traffic stop.
On July 4th of last year he went to six branches in San Francisco and one in Nearby Daly City while they were closed for the holiday, and looted the machine trays.
Kioskli was allegedly brazen enough to use his work key card to open the machines then swap out the cash with counterfeit and even photocopied $20 bills, authorities said.
The following day, Kioskli made a dash with the cash,leaving his unknowing wife behind, while scores of irate Bank of America customers contacted the bank to complain.
Kioskli faced a judge for arraignment in San Mateo County Superior Court where he pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary, embezzlement, forgery and possession of a counterfeiting apparatus.
He is being held in jail on $25,000 bail and is due back in court on May 31st for a preliminary hearing.
He will face similar charges in San Francisco.
