Actor. Longer careers unless you are a top 5 legend musically.
Acting pays better to unless you are one of the legends.
An average actor can get work for 30 or 40 years with no downtime.

A singer is one bad CD away from being forgotten.

Actors have not had to deal with there material getting downloaded and copied illegally nearly as bad as singers.

It seems like people will always have the desire to go watch a movie on the big screen.
While those same people refuse to pay $15 for a CD anymore

Or you can take the "all of the above" route and become Justin Timberlake.

Agree with everything other than what I bolded.. Older females find it hard to get quality parts after 50. But Males no doubt what you said was accurate.

seems like singers sometimes get a role or two in a movie as well.. but i think starring in movies would be fun.. or maybe a popular sitcom like "winning" sheen was :D

Singer, and it isn't even close. You did say "famous" --- so I'll assume money isn't a major concern.

Singers can drink whatever, smoke whatever, work (or not work) whenever. They can even molest children & teenagers, and nobody seems to care. Anything goes with the rock & roll lifestyle (for better or worse).

Compared to actors. At some point, even actors need to play by the rules. If they don't, the studios & producers won't hire them.

Uh, not implying that touching childrens is a good thing.

But look @ Michael Jackson. People still worship him, just because he was a talented musician.

You can snort cocaine, bang 9 groupies, set your furniture on fire, drive your motorcycle into a swimming pool --- and it is acceptable behavior (more or less) for a rock star.

There isn't even an argument here. It's actor. With the key word being "Famous." If we're talking about the money part, just remember that famous actors are multiple millionaires. You'll never see these people in an unemployment line no matter how much their career dries up as they age. Plus these kinds of actors are never seeking work. Work seeks them. Or they get whatever kind of acting job they choose to get. So what I'm saying is these people are in a different category than just "actors." Most of your average actors are unemployed the majority of the time, and are in fact eligible for unemployemnt benefits between jobs. And the unemployment is pretty good because on average an actor will make around $2,500 per week from the studio when working. Of course, famous singers don't have it bad either. The difference being would you rather be remembered on film or on tape? I think it just depends. If your talking singers who have wrote memorable long lasting songs like a Bruce Springsteen, I think you would rather be remembered by your music. But the Springsteen's and Dylan's are few and far between. I would lay odds a Brittany Spears would trade in her whole singing (cough cough) career to be the most famous actress in the world. So it's all relative. But on the whole actors have more money and influence than any non-political figure in the world. And their publicity agents are 10 times better than any singer's agent.

Actor. Steady work and you can choose what you want to do. Singer, you are constantly needing to reinvent yourself, grueling tours, etc.

Seth Rogen is falling ass backwards into money for his stoner schtick. George Clooney, Charlie Sheen, and others are famous for their binge nights and Clooney still gets just as much work as anyone.
