plus for miami: dallas isnt likely to win 4 out of 5: you get the final 2 at home.
plus for dallas: if you win one of the first 2, you can get away with only having to win 1 road game, if you can win the next 3.

imo it is neutral, mainly because i believe each team will win at least one on the opposing teams court.

I don't think it is remotely neutral. I think 2-3-2 significantly favors the home team compared to 2-2-1-1.

Just look at the last 20 years, only 4 teams have won the finals without HC in 2-3-2 and its Miami and Detroit (both won 4 straight games in the series so safe to say they were clearly better) and two Bulls teams (clearly better)

To win without HC in 2-3-2 you kinda have to step on the other teams throat in a sense. Be clearly better.

Funny how Miami got HC vs Dal was the final night of the season they sat their starters and Eddie House put in 35, Magloire had like 19 rebounds.

Agree with Patsfan completely.

I believe only 1 team has won the 2-3-2 in 5 games, being the home team 2004 Detroit Pistons.

'90 Pistons did it at Portland.
'91 Bulls did win 3 in a row LAL
'09 Lakers did it in Orlando

I believe that is it. Where the middle three were swept.

Yeah the main point is you have to be much better to do it. Bulls did it 3x but they were clearly the better team all 3 times. '90 Pistons were defending champs @ Port...

Its just tough and I am kinda surprised Miami is only -170 to win this thing. I do think Dal has a way better 4th Q offense than Bos/Chi and that might give them an edge vs Miami but I got Miami around -250 personally but just gonna hope my future on em cashes.

Home court and home field advantage favors the home team

Or is there something I'm missing?

The Bulls didn't sweep the Middle 3 games 3x. Only once vs LAL in 1990. They went 6 games vs Seattle, PHX, Utah and Portland

The 2-3-2 format totally favors the team with home court advantage IMHO. Very rarely does the team without the home court advantage win all 3 of their home games. The team with the home court advantage can put up 2-0 or even 1-1 and are likely to be coming back home after the 3 road games either 3-2 or 2-3, if not better, and still have Games 6 and 7 on their home court. The NBA should have never changed the format in the finals from 2-2-1-1-1. There were some great 7 game series back in the day.

One of the arguments against the 2-2-1-1-1 that I remember was the cross country flights between games, usually between Boston and LA. The one good thing about the
2-3-2 is there is only 2 max travel days, versus a potential 4 for the 2-2-1-1-1. That being said, I prefer the 2-2-1-1-1, as I think it is a fairer format.

i think that is the main argument, the travel days, although what's funny is 1) these two teams are close in proximity 2) didn't stop the NBA from scheduling Game 2 of the Bulls-Heat series on Wednesday and then Game 3 @ Miami on SUNDAY. That was a complete joke.

Although that had more to do with Oprah renting out the United Center for Monday and Tuesday of that week.

Team to open with first two games at home is 20-6 since NBA went to 2-3-2 format in 1985.

What does that have to do with Game 3 being in Miami on Sunday. Should have been on Friday.

No it shouldn't have. Game 1 was originally supposed to start on Tuesday. They were forced to reschedule Game 1 for Sunday and then Game 2 on Wednesday. See originally the would have played on Tuesday, Thursday then Sunday. There wouldn't have been such a long wait between games.

"
Is there anything Oprah Winfrey can't do?
The daytime queen has now forced the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat to reschedule the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals, ESPN Radio reported.
The game was supposed to take place Tuesday in Chicago's United Center, but Winfrey is taping one of her last shows in the arena.
So now the Heat will meet the Bulls on Sunday."
