The problem with the NBA is the games dont start till 9:00. or in reality after 9:00. us people with big boy jobs cant stay up till midnight to watch a basketball game. The super bowl kicked off around 6:30 this past year. Football is the only sport that has it right.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/pu...s-tumble-down-43-percent-from-?urn=nhl-wp6498

this is bad for the nhl, especially since game 1 had solid numbers, at least for the nhl you could consider them solid.

Hey Jackass, you seem to have left out this part of the article. Pretty convenient.

"Again, it's a Saturday night, when viewership in the U.S. is traditionally the lowest (and where struggling TV series go to die); and it's a Saturday night in June, no less. Context is everything, and those reasons (plus the Canadian team involved) are key factors for the 43-percent drop year-to-year."

"It was also a 50% drop from Game 2 of the 2010 Final, which again, aired on the more viewer-friendly Monday night."

And your also leaving out the Canadian audience which did 5.6 million for game one. [Didn't hear the rating for game 2 but with a Canadian team involved it shouldn't be far behind if not better. And those numbers are from a country of 33 million. The Canadian viewers are NOT counted in the numbers your posting.

Both of you 2's numbers are all flawed. As usual.

USA network advertisers dont care about Canada viewers , Network advertisers base what they would pay for a commercial spot based on US viewers so you would have been better off promoting your product during a modern family rerun then the hockey game

thats another problem with the nhl. lack of foresight with scheduling.

why would you schedule on a sautrday.

the obvious answer was they were afraid to go head to head vs. the nba.

sunday is the biggest viewing day of the week.

Agree the NHL viewership would be under 3 million in US if they did something as stupid to go against the NBA tonight.

Then they would of went head to head with NASCAR and still would not of been top dog, Looks like some here need a ratings 101 class and see how networks charge advertisers based on people watching.

It's a Canadian game. Hockey Night in Canada [Saturday Night] is the largest running show in the history of Canadian television. And a Canadian team was involved. THAT'S why they scheduled it on a Saturday.
