Mafia set to win big on the Belmont as NYC OTB ends

The 143 running of the Belmont Stakes look like a sure thing for the mob that is. Now that OTB “Off Track Betting” parlors in New York City have shut the doors the mafia is set to step in and take over the horse racing action that is being left behind especially with the Belmont Stakes race approaching. NYC OTB parlors handled almost $2.4 million dollars in bets on the Belmont Stakes last year which is a huge one day windfall and now those wagers may end up in the hands of organized crime run gambling rings.

A former soldier in the Bonanno crime family said “where there is money to be made the mob will certainly be there” and that is definitely the case here since mob run bookies stand to make a ton with OTB out of the picture. He also said the mob was taking bets while OTB was in operation so they have probably been taking bets on this upcoming race for weeks now. A city rackets prosecutor said that the move to shut down the OTB parlors has got to increase business for the mob run horse racing and betting parlors. Gamblers will make those bets somewhere and not all of them will run to a race track instead they will use the local street level bookmaker often attached to organized crime families.

Mafia run gambling parlors or bookies offer some short term benefits like a line of credit and payouts without any taxes being taken out but more often then not long term it inevitably leads to problems like loan sharking. Ex-FBI undercover Jack Garcia said its a constant circle for the mafia , they keep on ticking like timex. Garcia spent three years undercover inside of the Gambino crime family. Garcia said the mob is all about making money and if there is an opportunity there they will be there like white on rice to take advantage.

The Bonnano soldier recalled a mob partner of his making approx $10,000 a week from an offshore gambling ring he operated and he wasn’t nearly as large as some other operations being run. The Belmont betting pool offers way to big an opportunity for the mafia to not step in and take control. So if you want to lay down a bet on the Belmont you just go and see “Joey Pots and Pans” and he will take your bet !

Don't let others make you feel you can't post a Story or give your opinion on ANYTHING.

Yes common knowledge that the Mob takes Horse Bets... and everything else under the Sun.

I found it to be a Good Read.

Thanks
