Wiffs A-Rod to close out Yanks for save #12 on season and 200th of career...How sweet is that for Red Sox Nation? It's the fastest (359 appearances) any closer has ever gotten to 200 saves in MLB history.

Very nice. He needs to put up decent numbers so we can trade him at the all star break.

looked it up, good WHIP, good K's, only walked 4 batters this year.

it may look like he is sliding and he does seem to make saves "interesting" but he piles up good stats.

even last year when he seemed to frequently have something like a 2 run lead, the other team would get the bases loaded with 1 out vs him and then he would get out of it for the save, his 2010 stats are all good

Save is the most over rated stat of all BB stats IMO, may have to start a HOF thread for him in the near future though...

Red Sox - Yankees Even Steven last ten years...

The Red Sox and Yankees are 87-87 over the last 10 seasons. In the last 98 games, the Sox have scored 540 runs and the Yankees 541..

He's given up 30 homers in relief in 7 years.
Mo's given up 51 relief homers in 16 relief years.

Pap is the second coming of Bryan Harvey

Paps is overrated as shit for a closer. Honestly, being on that Boston team, a bottom-tier closer could notch 35+ saves.

Maybe you should look at the rest of his postseason stats and not just the only postseason game he has ever lost.

Oh the irony of the league's slowest pitcher being the fastest to reach a milestone...

No, that would be batting average.......................

Doesn't really matter how the stats are rated. What matter is that the pitcher gets outs (or for the batter, he doesn't get out). In that are Papelbon does a pretty damn good job

Allowing homeruns at a rate 75% as good as the best in history makes for a pretty damn good seven year run. Right now he is pretty much completely equal to Harvey. I'll take him exceeding that for his career for the max, please
