Mauer was coming very close to passing Munson; and add Martinez and Mussina to the rotation and don't think anyone is topping that
Mize had a full nine years where he was one of the two or three best hitters in the league. Plus another three years he was a truly great player, but just happened to be engaging the enemy on the battlefield rather than pitchers on the baseball diamond
Missed the part about post 1941 (how did you come up with that cutoff? Post World War II or post Jackie Robinson would make much more sense). If we discredit the years before that, McCovey would be the better choice, but over their entire careers it is easy to see he falls short of that level
Musial only played about 25% of his career in rightfield, less than either firstbase or leftfield. But if you are going to count him as a rightfielder, that would make Minnie Minoso the leftfielder. And if you are going to count Musial as a rightfielder why not McAuliffe or McDougald at shortstop?
Try another one:
C Ivan Rodriguez
1B Runnels
2B Jackie Robinson
SS Alex Rodriguez
3B Brooks Robinson
LF Ramirez
CF ?????
RF Frank Robinson
Roberts, Ryan and Rivera
but if you pull the Musial-like shenanigans, Rose is at first base and Alex Rodriguez at third, with Ripken at shortstop. But that still leaves a deadspot with Rowand or Rivers in centerfield. Funny that even Ruth might not be as much of an upgrade as, say Reggie Smith or Richie Ashburn
(ends up with one switch hitter and the rest righthanded I think. Perhaps not the greatest balance)
