Well, Luongo stopped 31 of 31 tonight for the complete game shutout.............Thomas stopped 24 of 25 and lost.

This hurt his chances.........but yes, he can still win the award in a losing cause if the series goes seven games.

I would say yes unless he completely comes apart in game 6.

I think it will be very hard to give Thomas the MVP if the Bruins lose the Cup. Luongo has pitched 2 shutouts
so I'd say if He plays well and the Canucks win the cup, He's still one of the favorites. After the scary injury to Horton, the Bruins played such inspired Hockey that I don't think there was much any goalie could have done to stop them. However Luongo has played great in the 3 close wins.

Tim Thomas lost them game 2 so I can't see him winning if they lose.

in 2003 Jean-Sebastien Giguere won the Conn Smythe despite the Ducks losing the Cup in seven games.

JS Giguere 2003 playoff stats - 15-6, 1.62 GAA, .945 SV%, 5 shutouts

Tim Thomas 2011 playoff stats (as of 6/11) - 14-9, 2.07 GAA, .937 SV%, 3 shutouts

I do think Thomas would get some consideration for MVP if the Canucks win the series, but I think Kesler may get the nod over him.

just doing quick research the Conn Smythe Trophy has been awarded to a total of 5 guys that played for the losing team. Of those 5 guys, 4 of them were goalies.

Did all go seven games??

I don't see how a goalie going 2-4 in a series can win MVP?

3-4..........possible.

Kesler has been invisible for 6 games. Luongo let in 8 one game. I don't see anyone worthy on the Canucks, but someone has to get the award.

The Conn Smythe trophy is based on performance for the entire playoffs, not just one series.

This is why Kessler is still mentioned as a candidate.

Game 2 goal in ot took 11 seconds and even though it was a great play by Burrows, I also felt that Thomas over reacted and allowed Burrows to fire into a totally empty net.

Thomas would have to be considered but I think Lus worked himself back into the conversation. 2 stinkers for sure this series and 2 vs chicago but his team is ahead 3-2 scoring 5 goals combined in those wins, 2 shutouts and 1 win by 1 goal. If he's not lights out those 3 games Bostons won the series. It's no slam dunk but he has worked himself into the talk again. Burr could also be in the conversation, guy does nothing but score big goals at the biggest times. Kesler pre injury would've run away with this but another shutout for Lu or tight game in which he has to be the difference maker, or an ot marker for Burr and it could change who wins this mvp

I'm a diehard Canuck fan and I have absolutely no problem with Thomas winning the Conn Smythe if the Nucks win the Cup, unless he really falls apart and blows it big time in game 6 or 7. Lou would be a pretty close second

1966 Roger Crozier won despite losing the cup in 6 games

1968 Glenn Hall won but the Blues got swept in the cup

1976 Reggie Leach (only skater) won the award but got swept in the cup

1987 Ron Hextall won the award but lost in 7 games

Giguere did it for the Ducks after losing to the Devils in 7, but he had an insane playoffs, I think the Ducks shut out their western finals opponent in all four games 4 shut outs in one series if I remember right
