Zach Stewart (RHP, TOR)
To replace the demoted Kyle Drabek, the Blue Jays recalled the 24-year-old Stewart and he'll make his major league debut today. He is a strong-framed hurler who returned to a starting role in '10 and continued to flash a terrific sinker and sharp slider. Stewart throws his plus 90-95 mph fastball from a deceptive, low 3/4 slot that results in groundballs and weak contact. He lacks consistency of his secondary offerings, but has shown improved life on his changeup and his slider is a swing-and-miss pitch. Despite a shift in roles from starter to reliever and back again, he has proven durable. It is evident that Toronto prefers Stewart in a starting role and he'll be given a legitimate opportunity to stick in the rotation.
He has a career 3.01 ERA in the minors.
STATS: New Hampshire (AA) - 12 gs, 4-3 4.39 ERA, 69.2 IP, 5 HR, .287 opp BA
