To the folks that have experience with both: What are the differences? What does one have that the other doesn't etc? Which is better and why?

Although Im sure plenty of people on both sides of the counters have their own preferences as far as software is concerned but in my opinion the differences are too subtle to affect the players and agents, most of the pros and cons for each software are on back end of the software and are more likely to affect the managers and clerks.

Yes you are right, but I am talking about from a lines mover or a manager/clerk point of view. Not the agent or player. 9 out of 10 agents or players can't tell if they are using asi or dgs.

I know you have used backend of dgs. Do you have any experience with ASI. I don't. I do with DGS from the back and I know what I like and what i've heard about ASI. I was just wanting to hear what some folks that have experience have to say. Guess I should have titled my thread "fried chicken livers for sale" and I'd have gotten some looks.

actually I did use ASI for quite a few years but it's been awhile, the one thing i remember really liking about it was the ability create players and automatically have them inherit the agents preferences and limits rather than having to search for the right profile. One thing I didnt like about it is that when it comes to circled games a lot of agents would get pissed off because the circle limit would be the same amount across the board unlike DGS where you control all limits through the profile.

So does ASI not have profiles? From what I've seen you have to change a lot of things player by player on ASI. Is that right or can you just change it by the agent?

You can go into the back end of the agent in the detail limits and set up each sport offering with the amounts that he wants. Then shoot that to all of the players underneath him. As long as the shop doesn't put circles on things then the individual player limits will trump the store limits.

exactly what he said, once the agent is set up all the limits can be transfered to the players, but that house circle will screw you in the butt if you have any big players.

In our office we have ASI. Years ago we tried out DGS, and I like it for the abilty to restrict and limit all sorts of things like in parlays. The ASI just worked out better for us, and for the agents.

I use both as an agent at other books, and I like the DGS for the simple fact i can change a password online, which i can't do on ASI, but the ASI I can change any limit on any sport, half, etc, make adjustments, deposits.

Anyone talked to Pat from Softech? I miss his drawl. Maybe I'll just phone his answering machine to hear his voice....

I think this is the case if you are using the stock version of ASI. If you have techs that know how to clean it up then I think ASI is a much better software. In the end though it does come to personal preference.

ODDS Inc. handles every rant mentioned here. Does DGS/ASI have private agent risk view which auto refresh in real-time? Profiles should be player specific, not universal. This is the function which makes ODDS the clear winner.

Pat from Softech is still around? Wow, is softech still around or I thought they became ASI or something like that?

A friend of mine from Inet moved to Canada 5 or so years ago to program for softech, but i don't know what it evolved into, or if it still exists.

Last time i actually saw Pat was at the Del Rey playing blackjack about same time ... Only two times i have visited the pink palace and I actually ran into someone i knew...

I enjoy working with DGS more than ASI, but then again I have a slightly different use-case scenario... :grandmais
