Holy crap...for 2 reasons:

1. Between him and Bin Laden, that's two top-10 fugitives caught in a matter of about six weeks or so?

2. A good friend of mine lives on the street where the arrest was made...he wasn't home at the time, but his wife stood outside and watched the feds take Whitey away. He says there weren't really many older people in this area of Santa Monica, which made it a somewhat peculiar place for Bulger to choose to live since he might have stood out more.

Santa Monica? Wow I don't think he was even suspected of living there. I know people love to see mobsters romanticized in film and pop culture, but I hope they give this fool the chair (granted he is 81 so I doubt he cares much) Got to live on borrowed time long enough.

Yeah was God, although Romney dragged him through the mud pretty good. Don't blame Romney for pushing that issue either really, pretty smart tactical move by him. Although not sure what he really had to gain other than to stick it to the guy....

I did not know that "the departed" was based on this guy. Interesting.

Glad they found him there.
There was a older couple who moved onto my Block about 6 months ago and they were weird and looked shady as can be.
They also match down to the T from Whitey and his Girl.

Now I have to wonder what's up with these two that i have :think2:
I know there's something not right about them.

Based a bit strong. More like an inspiration for...

Right. It's Not the Film itself but the character, Frank Costello.

Frank Costello was based on James J. Bulger, an Irish-American mobster in Boston who was secretly an FBI informant for over three decades. The revelation that the FBI had long protected Bulger and his Winter Hill Gang from prosecution caused a major scandal in Boston law enforcement. Bulger was believed to have been seen coming out of a theater showing the film in San Diego in November 2006.[5][6] Matt Damon's character is based on John Connolly, the FBI agent who tipped off Bulger for years, allowing him to evade arrest. Bulger went into hiding, however he now been arrested without incident from a residence in Santa Monica, California, on Wednesday June 22, 2011, occupying a spot on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list; Connolly is imprisoned for his role in Bulger's criminal activities.[7] Costigan's undercover role as a former State trooper who joins the Irish mob parallels the story of Richard Marinick, a former State trooper who later joined Bulger's crime syndicate. Costigan lives in Somerville, where Bulger's gang began. Thomas Duffy, the film's technical advisor, is a former MSP major who was assigned to investigate the Irish mob upon making detective

I just read this weekend that they began running most-wanted ads about him and her. She apparently spends a fortune at beauty salons so they ran ads during prime women-viewed shows around the country. Must have worked.

The incredibly narcissistic Boston media cannot get enough of this. Pre-empting shows left and right to repeat the same shit over and over. Enough already!

Having spent a good deal of my life in Somerville and around Winter Hill, it blows me away that he was still in the States, and that he's been caught. Due to my age, he always seemed like a myth or urban legend - someone that, if real, would never be behind bars. I think a lot of people in the area feel this way, it's just odd.

His brother is god up there though.

His brother is known as the "corupt midget" former democratic state senate president Billy Bulger...also former President of U Mass...He now recieves a pension of like 200K a year from the state another fuckin thief.
I can tell you right now there are probably a lot of people in state goverment are sweating their ass off that Whiteys been caught....They also caught Whitey with a shitload of phone tapes that Whitey taped on people.
Don't be surprised if this guy walks. He probably has the goods on politicians,FBI, and cops.
This will be one of the most intresting trials to follow in history.
Get this. The supposed tipster that led to the arrest came from a person who lived in Iceland...that formely lived in Santa Monica...yeah right.
Whitey was also fortunate enough to win the mega bucks Ma. state lottery in the mid 90's while his brother Billy was state senate president who basically knew everyone in the lottery commision and treasury.
Best book on Whitey."Black Mass" and a recent book "Hitman" by Howie Carr.

I'd probably bet anything he won't walk, I don't care what he has on people. Everything he has is from like 25+ years ago.

Agree on Billy being a crook though, whole MA pension system is pretty messed up though. Tons of people making 70k+ in pensions a year cause their friends promoted them their last 3 years thinking who cares, why not..
