I know it's only June but I don't see anyone beating the Phillies this year

No team can match their starting 3 even with Oswalt on the shelf. Lee, Halladay and Hamels are unhittable right now. You could easily see any team down 0-3 to them in a series before they get the 4th starter who would be Worley or Kendrick at this point.
The Phillies have gotten to 50 wins with almost no offense. Lee and Halladay can give you complete games in the playoffs. Maybe they can run into a San Francisco like last year but it would be hard to see. The key is Hamels is an even better pitcher than last year. Last night Boston had no answers. The only edge they have is in the World Series they can use Ortiz as DH but thats it. They had two guys in line-up last night batting near .100. Are you kidding me!!!!

Not so fast. The Giants starting pitching of Lincecum, Sanchez, Cain, Bumgarner and Vogelsong and their relievers of Santiago Casilla, Ramon Ramirez, Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez, Sergio Romo and Brian Wilson are second to none.

The Giants beat Halladay, Lee, and Oswalt last year in the playoffs on their way to winning the World Series. The Giants are 12 games over .500 while being currently the worst hitting team in the National League until yesterday when they clobbered the Cubs in a double header. They are currently on a 7 game winning streak and making a push before the All Star break. They are currently a focused team that plays together without super-stars and they pick up each other as a good team does. They are in first place in the NL West with a 2.5 game lead over Arizona. I expect their hitting to pick up and end up running away with the Division. They have lost both Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez and still keep winning. I don't think the Phillies want to see this staff in the playoffs.

Red Sox can beat anyone in a 7 game series. Beckett is still 1 of the best big game pitchers in the league still and if Red Sox have homefield in the playoffs then Gonzo can play 1B and Ortiz at DH.

Once again the Phillies throw out a pitcher that the Sox couldn't touch. Even with Ortiz in the line-up the Sox did nothing. They need Lackey to get them their only run. Ted, Lee wasn't on the Phillies last year he was pitching for Texas. That's why they have the Four Aces now Three Aces due to Oswalt on the shelf.
If Worley keeps pitching like he did Wed. it won't matter. Hamels vs Lester on Thursday, great game and good chance the Red Sox get swept.

If the playoffs started today and Halladay, Lee and Hamels were healthy and pitching the way they are right now it would be almost impossible for anyone to beat the Phillies. With that being said it will be very difficult for the three of these guys to keep pitching this way, the Phils are still in desperate need of a right handed bat. Oswalt is extrememly over rated and IMO has lost all the tools that made him an ace a couple years ago. He's washed up and it doesn't even seem like his heart's in it which scares the living shit outta me if he's gonna be pitching in the playoffs. Enjoying watching Worley pitch the way he has been, this kid can flat out pitch.

You make some good points omt BUT the giants offense is still not nearly as talented as the Phillies offense.

I'm well aware that Lee was with Texas last year. The Giants beat him in the World Series and he even said the Giants were very tough to pitch against.

The Giants actually have the worst offense in the National League, however, last year they didn't have the offense that the Phillies had but took them out rather easily 4-2 in the playoffs to win the National League pennant. I remember Victorino stating he couldn't believe it. What the Giants have that no other team has is 5 quality starters and an outstanding bullpen which in a best of 7 series you need. The Phillies have 3 which is fine for the best of 5 first round but in Game 4, they are at a disadvantage, particularly against the Giants. Of course, all this is mid season discussion, but anyone who dismisses the Giants because of their current offensive woes is underestimating them. Even with the lack of production at the plate, they are 11 games above .500 and in first place in the NL West. What if their bats warm up or Sabean strengthens the team, particularly at catcher, before the trade deadline. Ivan Rodriquez anyone?

The Phillies have won a season-best eight straight series on the road (20-6 record). Their last series loss was June 17-19 at Seattle (1-2).
The team with the major's best record shook off a ninth-inning collapse in Friday's series opener to shut down the Nationals, 5-0, last night.
The Phillies, who are 7 1/2 games ahead of second-place Atlanta, are 8-5 vs. the Nationals this year.

Wow, is this a junior espn site? Does anyone follow the league here? Since the break, Brewers starters lead the league in era and have the best home record in MLB. I love the fact that this small market midwest team gets no props. Well, that stops soon as they will be highlighted down the stretch. So tired of hearing about the Yanks, Cards, Phils and RedSox. It baffles me that it takes over 3/4 of a year to get noticed. I dont think there is a better closing staff in the league, starters are going deep, winning on the road, and a very solid defensive club(without Weeks and Gomez). All the pieces will be there for the stretch and if my memory serves me right the Crew was not at all impressed when they played the Phils earlier in the year.
Just give props where they are due. If I were a Phil fan I would be doing everything in my power to have home field adv. throughout. Just my .02 cents

Lets see if there staring pitching can continue until october becasue there is no question that the philles pitchers will be ready. As far as home field lets be real phils got that locked up already.

This just goes to show that in baseball once the playoffs begin -- it can be a crap shoot. Witness the Cardinals this year and a fair share of WC teams that have won it all.

And the Phillies were overrated.
