One thing that the parity at the top of the American League has taught the betting services community over the past couple of weeks is that there is money to be made by wagering on those teams that are in contention for a division title. With the New York Yankees looking to battle off the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, and the Detroit Tigers doing the same in the AL Central, both teams have been on a tear the past month and there is no reason to think that they will slow down anytime soon.

The Yankees have been the best team in the AL over the past 14 days, and their eight wins in the past 10 games are a big reason why. With Mark Teixeira making his move to past Curtis Granderson in home runs on a team that leads the majors in that category, there is a ton of internal competition and that has guys looking to go out and do their part to make sure that the franchise is successful every night. With players such as Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez realizing that the window isn’t very big to go out and win a World Series, the team has really come alive to pull back ahead of the Red Sox for top spot in the division. If Brett Gardiner and Nick Swisher can continue to hold their own on offense, and the pitching staff can continue to get quality starts out of the arms of Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia, then the Yankees will continue to hit at the sports betting services win column.

The same principle is true with the Tigers, who have come from behind to pass the Cleveland Indians for first place in the AL Central. Detroit has been rather mediocre over their past ten, but with an increased sense of urgency on a team that has underachieved the past couple of pay per head betting seasons, it might not be long until they get going again. Miguel Cabrera has looked like his old self as his batting average has climbed over .330, and he leads the team in home runs, RBI, runs, and OPS. Meanwhile on the other side of the ball Justin Verlander has been just as key to Detroit’s success with his 2.38 ERA helping him become the first MLB pitcher on the staff to get to 10 wins. Verlander will need more help from the rest of the rotation in the long run, but the offense can certainly help them out if they continue to put up numbers.

There is lots of time for things to change and expect teams such as Boston, Tampa Bay, and Chicago to break out soon as they look to keep pace with the division leaders. At this point though it is the Yankees and Tigers that lead the way, and they will continue to do it heading into the MLB betting month of July.
