2 weeks ago, A/C breaks. Just had a new one put in 2 years ago for for $5K. They come out to service it and say parts are under warranty, but labor isnt.

Guy comes out and writes warranty on the invoice receipt. I get a notice for $1233 from the company, saying that is what is owed.

I called them and asked them if they charge $2466 an hour for their services and wanted know why I wasn't billed at the time of service.

I contend that I don't have to pay, am I right/wrong or tbd?

Something doesn't sound right. I wouldn't pay anything without some follow-up.

You are wrong. Very common air conditioning ploy. Dont know about that labor charge, but the contract is valid. Bait and switch type deal. Only covers... the rest is in the small print.

i'm afraid you MAY owe this.....but if so then this is ethically horrible for these guys.....hopefully they cant stay in business long for screwing their customers like this.

best case scenario is that this included the parts (by mistake?) and there will be an adjustment soon

wow what a scam
this is what I have done in the past when almost the same thing happened to me.

tell them there was no money for them and there never will be.
make signs and walked up and down the sidewalk infront of thier store to tell everyone driving by what a scam company it is.
tell them if it shows on my credit report that I would be a bigger pain in thier ass.
tell them it would be a pain to replace thier tires and windows every week.
Tell them you have a gun and if they come on your property you will take that as them stealing.

come off as a bigger dick then they could ever think of and they will go away.

Don't pay it...you are getting torn a new ass.

Call them and let them know what you think - if they didn't give you a bill at the time of service or establish an agreed upon price they won't have a leg to stand on and probably won't have the balls to follow it up. Make sure they know what happened though...it is entirely possible the technician screwed up on the invoice he turned in or your work was filed under a different claim. If you fight this you won't be responsible for probably much more than a hundred dollars.

Did you read what he actually wrote ? He said that the parts are covered, but labour is not.

If that is indeed the case, then of course he doesn't owe $1,233 ... maybe $100-200, and $200 would be stretching the boundaries.

i would think if the tech did not give you an estimate that u signed saying what you would owe for labor they cant just make up a figure and send a bill. sounds shady to me.

Don't pay them a dime! If they have the balls to sue you then you may only have to pay about a hundred bucks, but I seriously doubt they would take you to court. If they give you shit then like one poster said become the bigger ahole and tell them there not getting anything!

Could you imagine this being on Judge Judy. She'd rip the plaintiffs a new hole! lol

Also call the Attorney General's office. If they get enough complaints they'll do something about it - they need your vote in the next election.
