Lester: Lat strain not 'a long-term deal'

By: Alex Speier

Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester said that he was sore after suffering a strained left lat muscle in the fourth inning of Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Even so, while he suggested that the Sox could tweak the date of his next scheduled start (currently slated for Sunday) to take advantage of next week's four-day All-Star break, Lester -- who will be examined extensively on Wednesday -- suggested that he did not envision the injury impacting his availability beyond his next start.
"We’ll get it looked at tomorrow, see how I feel. Luckily, we have the All-Star break built in, so hopefully we don’t have to do anything drastic around here," Lester said. "We may alter one start, but like I said, we’ve got the All-Star break built in. I don’t imagine this being a long-term deal. We’ll re-evaluate everything tomorrow. Hopefully, this was just a more precautionary type deal, just a fluke thing, and move on."
Lester is 10-4 with a 3.31 ERA.
