I just told them I'm going to Amazon to Buy my Phones

Been with them since 1998, just about same Contract through the years.

My wife only wants the LG Octane ( non Smartphone ) and I'm getting the Thunderbolt ( Smartphone )

Verizon wants to charge $99 - $30 = $69 for the Octane, and $249 for my Thunderbolt.

Amazon Wants to charge me $199 for the Thunderbolt and 0.01 for the Octane

No Brainer ??

Ask to speak to their "retention department". Tell them you are considering Sprint...or AT&T or whoever....the retention department are the people who are authorized to give you unadvertised deals....

I think I just did. He told me he can only give my wife a Pre-Owned for free and use the $30 on my Thunderbolt.

I've been looking into verizon, they're ending unlimited data Thursday.
I was debating whether I wanted to sign with them or not.
As far as Thunderbolt, I would hold off there's the Bionic and some other
Phone coming out that top the Thunderbolt, plus battery life is terrible on
Thunderbolt from what I've heard.

Yeah, trying to get in before the 7th
They told me they don't have details but it will be Tiers for the data plan
if you get in before then, you are grandfathered in.

Also, yeah heard about the Bionic but I'm Hooked on this Thunderbolt :ohno:

I think the best thing to do is go ahead with buying these Phones at Amazon

The guy i spoke to last said to me there is No Way he can compete with Them !
He said Amazon buys in Bulk... I said Doesn't Verizon ???

But they won't give in as far as My Wife's Phone... which is Really Stupid because it's not even a Smartphone .

After doing some research I think I may just stick with At&t.
They're service isn't that bad, I complain about not getting service
in the sticks, but what can you expect, it's the sticks haha.

Verizon just seems so expensive. The plan I was looking at was $120
the same plan through At&t was $90. Well almost the same you get 2GB
through At&t and 4GB through Verizon for data. Though in the year I've had my iphone 4
I've only gone over 2GB one time. However At&t does offer roll over minutes,
which I have accumulated almost 2000 of over a year.$700 difference over the contract term.

If I were going to sign with Verizon, I would get the iphone 4 $200 for now. Just because when
the new phones come out this fall, you'll be able to sell you iphone for $350-$400. Almost
enough to pay for whichever smart phone you choose.

I think I'm going to wait until 2012 to buy a new phone though, there seems to some some
very interesting phones due to be released.

This one looks very badd ass in particular

Well... I guess the old saying of " Everything happens for a reason " is True.

So last night I was trying to Upgrade the two phones through Amazon because of what I posted above.

For whatever reason, i couldn't add Both Phones to the Plan or in the Cart.
So I look for help.... get a phone number for Amazon wireless
and they have having trouble on their Phone Lines due to Weather ???

I'm like.. look at this shit, can't get my Phones through Amazon now...
So Write them an Email asking if they can help me. ( this was late at night )
by this time their Offices are closed, so I figure I would get a reply by Today.

Had something to do Today and was Out of the house by 7AM... so I figure by the time I get home ( around 6pm ) I should get an email back from Amazon.
Never received it.

**Now let me go back a little...... last night talking to 5 Verizon Reps...going back and forth... I did get them to put a Block on my Texts for spam Texts that sometimes I get...and so does my Wife.

Problem is, there is a Program that my wife uses that sends a Text Key Code to her Cell phone.. and when we get Home tonight she needed to use it.
at the time, we didn't put 2&2 together that the Block we placed last night would Block the Code.
After a few minutes of thinking about why she wasn't getting the code... I figured it out. ( the Verizon Block )

Had to call verizon and take the block off, after he gets done with that the Tech guy says to me... So how are you doing with your Verizon Account ? @)

I said.. You Really don't want to ask ! Believe me !
He's like... no no, tell me what's wrong ?

I go into the Whole story... and he's like...That Can't be... let me see what I can do for you... at this point I'm telling I really don't think you can help because I climbed up the ladder to some Top Dept.
He asks me what I'm looking for and i tell him... he says, I'll be right back.

After going back and forth for Only 3 mins... He says I have a Deal for you.... and because you have been a long Time Customer.... He will give me My Wifes Phone for $29.99 ( last night, Best Deal.. $69.99 )
He will give me My Phone for $219.99 ( last night best Deal $249.99 )

Now the above is Not as good as Amazons Deal... BUT !!
He threw in a Free Extended Battery for the Thunderbolt ( $49.99 Value )
* and I was Buying one from Amazon...as that's the only problem with the TB
AND...... FREE Hot Spot with my Thunderbolt ! for 2 Years !! That's $20 a Month x 24 months =$480 Value

So if it wasn't for the block I placed on the Cell phone, and needing take that Block off..... I would have never got a better deal

imo betall just call back a few times.. its basically who u get on the phone at these places somtimes.. the beauty of something like this with verizon is tons of people hang up and try again witha fresh operator and lots of times get better offers... some people report 3 or 4 calls before they get their golden ticket :)

check out slickdeals.net for some helpful hints on their verizon threads for this contract extension and unlimited data stuff. its all over their forum. http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=827798&t=3044309

BAS, lemme know what you think of the Thunderbolt. I just switched over to Verizon today and went with the Droid X2 bc thunderbolt battery issues. You can "root" the phone and teether for internet access but they can suspend your service. Through a little research I found that 5GB a month is when they start noticing you.
Glad to hear you're making out okay out East!

Hey Bro .. long Time

Not a Problem, I should have it by Monday and going to be playing with that sucker Right away.

Knew before it came out the Battery problems.. as Every Review said the same
and a friend of mine has the Evo ( sister phone to the Thunderbolt )
she had to get the Extended Battery too.

Seems that once you get to a 4G network, it pulls a ton of battery life.
the only pain is, the extended battery does make the phone itself a little on the heavy side.

Picked this phone for a lot of reasons, one being that I can use it as a Hot spot and hook up 5 wireless devices at the same time.
And, you can Talk and surf at the same time. ( it's the only Verizon phone that does that )
Currently ....

after you get it, might wanna look into rooting the phone and freezing the bloat, or programs running, to help save battery life. Two reasons to root, teether and battery life

I can do a lot on a Computer, but Don't know much from Cellphones ...had a Iphone when it first came out.... didn't like AT&T, so I Dumped them.

So when you & Murph talk about Rooting, Teethering ...or whatever... I'm Lost
But will look those things Up. :103631605

Did you Already take the Data Plan ?? Unlimited ??

Because if you Didn't... this is What you are looking at

The new plans for new Verizon customers will consist of four choices: $10 for 75 megabytes a month, $30 for 2 gigabytes, $50 for 5 gigabytes or $80 for 10 gigabytes, said Jenny Weaver, a spokeswoman for the telecommunications giant.

I've always wondered, is it like jumping through hoops to buy your hardware NOT from the cell phone companies and then trying to have them replace your current phone on your plan?

So if I have unlimited already I won't be affected? Probably a dumb question...

Anyone who had the Unlimited as of Yesterday 7/6/11 is Grandfathered and will have it for Life ( so they say ) But I do believe

Read that some people were in verizon Stores last night signing up. Unlimited ended last night at 9pm EDT
Because of the lines.. some people got up to the counter after 9pm and Verizon System shut them out. But I heard that Verizon will fit that.

So you are Good to go :103631605
