I'm not worried about water and beaches or bitches. 1. crime. 2. cheap. If this has been asked before I am sorry. Thanks

hey hey NJ.....are we talking 12 months a year, or less?

If not influenced by "beaches and water", but seeking primarily warmer weather at least 10 mos a year, I'd toss out an initial retort that North Texas (literally a couple dozen communities just above Dallas/Ft Worth) might be an equally good look-see.

Far enough north to avoid most of the adverse effects of Mexican immigrants (legal and illegal) and with few exceptions, law enforcement presence is more than sufficient to assure above average safety for 95% of population

And once you're north by at least 20-30 miles of Dallas and/or Ft Worth city limits, your cost for housing etc drops dramatically for homes that are fully on par (quality-wise) with those inside DFW city limits.

Your costs go up the closer you get to water. That being said, the market has been destroyed lately and you may be able to pick up a property at a foreclosure auction that is pennies on the dollar.

IMO I prefer the west coast as compared to the east coast. Places like Cape Coral (north of Fort Myers), Bonita Beach (south of Fort Myers) are great. If you're really concerned about the weather, think Ft. Myers and south to make sure you won't get a night below freezing, though you will see some nights in the upper '30's.

I've got a place in Ft. Myers...and love it....it can get a little chilly some nights..but makes for a GREAT second home....especially during the cold winters of Chicago...

hahahah remember the first time i discovered this little town...quite the shock...but South FL cant be beat,,,you have the beaches, city life, casinos, women, and about every vice on the planet..as far as retirement if you had the money i would recomend east Delray Beach or east Ft Lauderdale..im about 30 years away myself and would love to retire overseas but if not having a place in one of those areas would be great

It's too damn easy to get into trouble there though, that's the thing.

Thanks, few years before I officially retire, just like to have a plan or the beginning of one. Bar, love the TX suggestion. If there is a hidden gem, would love to hear it, no winters.

See I agree with this.
A lot of people think it's better up North FL. Why take a chance of hitting some Cold Cold weather !

give me Delray down to Hollywood Anytime !

I like the Water... so it's a little different. But you can find GREAT deals down there away from the Water Cheap.
Talking $20k-$60K and you are anywhere from a Mile to 5 miles away from the Beach . :103631605

Fishhead, would you mind offering acouple suggestions? Thanks

I did in my previous post........

WESLEY CHAPEL(24 MILES NORTH OF TAMPA)...........or CLEARWATER(COUNTRYSIDE AREA).

LIVED here and been around the entire state extensively for close to ten years and would look nowhere else.

Florida is too hot for me, would never want to live there year round.

IMO the best retirement location is the Carolina's or out West.
