Coming home tonight i stop thru the McDonalds drive thru. The guy working has me pull up to the window to order instead of thru the machine. I order a snacksize Mcflurry and a small fry. Small fry=1$ off the dollar menu and mcflurry=1.79. So 6% sales tax and that comes out to 2.95 or so. So i have my 3$ out and he says 3.95. I initially think maybe i saw the price wrong(since the menu is no longer in front of me) so i just hand him 4 dollars and figure ill check the receipt because maybe he gave me a medium fry or a regular size mcflurry. Get my bag, small fry and snack size mcflurry-pull up and see no receipt. So basically this guy scammed me out of 1$. I just dont understand what his reasoning is for doing this or maybe i am missing something? Its 1 dollar so i don't really mind and didnt go back in to confront anyone but it leaves me a bad taste as i literally go to this McDonalds 4+ times a week

Chick-Fil-A tried to screw me out of $15 on change a few weeks ago. Then they tried to screw me out of $1 after supposedly getting it right. I was there in-line so it became more comical than anything. It ended up being more funny than anything and it seemed like her mind was in another place at the time so it was probably an accident. She looked embarassed and I was laughing so it was all in good fun.

sure sounds like he's pocketing the $$, a $1 doesn't sound like much but do this 20 times a night and it's an extra $400 at the end of the month/ $5k per year.

Yea it def sounds like hes pocketing the 1 dollar and my friend in the car said it that 1 dollar times all the cars is a lot. Most places do have that receipt policy but there was no sign at this mcdonalds actually. Just bitter my loyalty thru the last 10 years has been blatantly disrespected. 7-11 on the other hand has the best customer service around me and always helps me out

I used to fill up my car every Sunday night at this gas station around the corner from my house and they hired some new worker who was trying to rip off customers. I would give him a hundred and then when I come back for my change he shorted my $5 and I caught it on the spot so he said he was sorry and gave me the correct change. Then the following week he did it again and tried to give me back the incorrect change so I told him the next time he "accidentally" tried to give me back the incorrect change I am going to break his jaw. He never fucked up again.

call the store manager during the daytime different than when this guy works or even go inside and ask to speak to manager. he scammed his employer out of 3 dollars and you 1 so he should be fired for being a thief maybe calling a regional office will work also.

I agree with "call the manager" (try the dayshift as that's usually the Store Manager)

Chances are (if this person is intentionally ripping off customers) that it probably doesn't just start and stop there. They are probably not ringing up food items that they "know the price of" (Ok your total is $3.17 please drive around) and stealing cash from the store as well.

It's a variation of the bartender trick where someone orders a drink, they charge the customer, don't ring it up and just pocket the money. Then the bar manager starts running a ridiculous liquor cost (product left without the money hitting the register)

The other day Taco Bell scammed me but in a strange way.

I ordered some stuff and one drink and when I get to the window the guy gives me two drinks and he's all excited telling me how the extra drink is cause "we love to please the customer." Then he's telling me to call the number on the receipt and give the store good ratings. I'm thinking "What a nice guy" but then when I checked the receipt he charged me for two drinks. I don't get it. Even if they put in an extra drink they can quickly erase. I thought that was strange.

The McDonald's guy working the window was in business for himself with maybe a partner on the grill. The whole transaction never saw the ordering system/cash register and the employee pocketed your entire amount. Most likely he forgot you had a discount coming because that would only show up in a legitimately entered order into the store computer system on the printout-receipt.

Rat him out if you want - but me personally - would let the a guy make a few bucks when he can in a shit job like that..Old as the hills scam in restaurants and bars, even fast food joints..Especially at odd hours when there is little to no management around.

Most likely good inventory control at the store will identify that they have a thief and they will catch him sooner or later..

I agree that if you are a high school or college kid and if you have to work shit jobs at fast food joints and retail then you are kinda expected to take care of yourself at the benefit of your employer.

You don't steal from the customers though. That is the easiest way to draw unnecessary attention to yourself. If the OP feels the kid scammed him out of a dollar then he probably has done it before and there are some people that will speak up on the spot if they were over charged even a quarter. You get too many of those customers making noise about getting incorrect change then management has to fire you because you are stealing or you just can't count.

Me personally think the kid didn't ring up the order with intention to pocket the money but gave the wrong total to the OP by mistake.

Stop on occasion at around 3 am at the local 24 hour McDonalds and at that time they seem to always say CASH only, seems odd, but more times than not they say cash only.....

I disagree.
They are stealing from you and me.
Profit margin is razor thin for a franchise owner of a McD.

When an employee steals, it will raise the prices of the products we buy.

I would tell.

If the guy wants to make more the $7 an hour, he needs to make himself worth more the $7 an hour.

Jesus Christ. Are yall fucking serious? Call the manager and try and get him fired? You don't know if he did it on purpose. I could understand if this happened multiple times or something but fuck maybe he just made a mistake. I use to get frustrated with fast food places fucking up orders and what not. Once you realize they are human, you can't really get that mad about it. If someone on here can honestly say they have never made a mistake or fucked something up at work then more power to you. He may have been ripping you off out of the dollar but you don't know that for sure. I understand most would assume because the guy is working at McDonalds that he probably is just trying to scam. He still could have just fucked up though. If it happens again or something then say something about it.

Most of the fast food places including McDonald's where I live have a screen right at the ordering window that adds up the items and total of your order right there so there is no argument over the order. The only thing I have to worry about is getting back the correct change. But I try to always pay in small bills when I hit these places since half of these people can barely speak english, much less do math.

I would agree with you if the sale went through the system like it was supposed to, but the fact that he told the guy to skip the order screen and go straight to the window to make the order and not get a ticket is reason alone for termination.

Even if he did not steal from the customer, that alone is enough to get fired.

There is only 2 reasons the employee would tell the customer to skip the system.

#1) The system was broke.
#2) Employee theft

If its reported, it would be found out which of the 2 reasons this happened.
Telling the management will not automatically get the guy fired.
It will just allow the management of the store to find out if stealing was going on.

The McD that the tread starter went to also has the same screen you are talking about. The thread starter said the employee told him to skip that screen and order directly at the cashier window.

Do you see the problem now?

I ALWAYS make sure I get my receipt and look at it before I leave the window. I read somwhere that almost 80% of the people who order from McDonalds don't look at the menu because there is so much shit on there that it just gets more confusing. So most people already know what they want when they pull up and order the usual everytime. And that pretty much goes for me too. All I know is they aren't going to get away with not having an ordering screen and not giving me a receipt all in one order. If the order isn't the same price as the money I have out, then they aren't going to get paid.

Yea-I was told to pull up and order directly thru him instead of thru the screen which makes me suspicious. Also theres another screen that just displays a price that had nothing as well.

Yea-i was expecting a receipt but just figured it would be easier to accept the fact that i spent an extra dollar and just go home, eat and sleep since it was after 2am
