My guess is that he's shutting it down for the year

It would be a smart move IMO, of course nobody knows how he feels physically/mentally but he needs to take a long break and come back when he is 100%

Sounds like retirement to me; either that or he'll only play in majors.

Neither of these options is feasible. Too young to retire and he doesn't have a career ending injury. If he wants to keep some sort of sponsorship then he will need to play in more than 4 tournies per year. IMHO

interesting point, but i think ill disagree.

tiger already has established name brand value. he doesnt need to do anything and he'll still make money off endorsements.

jordan is the example ill throw out to defend my statement. (hanes, nike, etc.)

Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman will talk with Mark Steinberg Monday to discuss the agent’s future business endeavors. Golf Channel will air the interview at 11AM ET.
Steinberg, who has represented Tiger Woods since 1999, left International Management Group in May. Woods, who had been with IMG since turning professional in 1996, announced two weeks later, in June, that he would leave the company and remain with Steinberg.
Woods will not be present during the interview. He is recovering from knee and Achilles’ injuries and has not played since withdrawing from The Players Championship.

I understand he has an established name. But that took an enormous hit with his scandal and the longer away from golf he is the more that affects his name brand. He needs to do more to regain his name, not less. You saw how many on this board jumped of his wagon after his scandal went public. The general public is doing the same thing. If he exists public life he will lose everything IMO. What does a golfer who plays in 4 tournies a year possibly worth? He can't win them all. And the way things are going right now he ain't winning a thing, forget the majors.

Your example of Jordan is poor because he is a once in a lifetime figure who did not fuck everything up for himself.
BTW he owns an NBA team so I wouldn't say he doesn't do anything.

hes not in the limelight though, thats what i mean.
tiger is a once in a lifetime athlete, but your right he did fuck it up.

i still think he'd get paid if he was out of the limelight like jordan is now.

Oh he will be living comfortably no matter what he does, golf or not. But to the point of keeping the mega million endorsements I got to believe those days would be behind him if he abruptly retire.

And I agree, he was a once in a lifetime athlete and on the direct path to Jordan status easily. He could still get it back but he needs to play and win.
