OT computer guys..how do I get a print out of all the named folders I have in my documents..or better yet get that list of the names into WORd or EXCEL so I can print the names from there....

in My Documents over the years I have created and named way too many folders to hold various files..I can list them alphabetically on my screen (list details and click on the folder names to sort them alphabetically) (there are so many you have to scroll down to see them all)

Id llke to print a list of them (the names of the folders).

Im looking to reorganize the storage locations of stuff in the hundreds of folders and rename some folders and consolidate but I want a hard copy to see the big picture

I could just go one by one and write them down and retype them in EXCEL and print it that way but that would take forever..

i don't know if this world work or not - but, have you tried copy & paste? Select All for the folders, and CTRL-V in Word or Excel?

that does not seem to work the COPY seems to want to actually COPY the files and the actual items not just the names of the folders which is all I care about..

Start dos. I think you can go to run and type cmd.

cd to your folder... so something like C:\>cd "Users\FolderName"
type dir - This lists all the contents of the folder and you can just cut and paste from dos into text pad and format.

Directory of C:\Users\FolderName

I recommend Directory Report
http://www.file-utilities.com
It can save its output into a .csv file which can be opened by Excel or
It can save its output directly into Excel or
It can send its output directly to a printer

It can save many more file attributes than the DOS dir command
