I didn't ask any questions, just took the offer :

Thank you for contacting the Sony Exchange Dept.,

We are happy to confirm your acceptance of the replacement offer for a KDL55EX500 for $200 + local sales tax.

* NOTE: All offers are subject to availability.

Please write the model and serial number of your TV on a sheet of paper, then carefully remove the big black serial number tag from your TV and securely attach the tag to a full size, 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. Please write your Event number, E51095355, on the paper and make a copy of the sheet for your records.

In addition, we must have a picture which clearly shows the issue you are having with your TV. We will not be able to process your order without it.

Turn the TV on and be sure the issue is clearly displayed. Then write your Event number, E51095355, on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper and attach the paper to the bottom of the TV screen so that the paper does not block the view of the TV screen. Take a picture of the TV so that the issue you are having with the TV, and the Event number are clearly visible in the picture.
...
O
In consideration for Sony making and you accepting this offer, you agree to release and hold harmless Sony Electronics Inc., and its affiliates, officers and directors from any and all claims for damages, loss, cost, expense or liability both known and unknown, which you may have incurred in connection with your television KDS60A2020.

I thought I was missing something -- a 60 inch Sony flatscreen was also offered for 1075...

The old one is too huge for wii in the play room.

Well that was a Fing GREAT Deal.

wish i would have known Sony does this. back in January I decided to buy 3 new TV's because i was getting rid of a Sony 40" ( 2008 ) that looked like some of the Colors were going.
I wouldn't think to fix it, because 9 out of 10 it cost more to Fix. So I just went out and bought another on ( 42" ) and a couple other ones .

Time for the ol' Craigslist ad to sell for $200 (get your money back for the 55" flatty).

BUT FIRST

I can verify with SheBar later (you might recall that she has been selling electronics for past 12 yrs), but I'm almost certain that the yellowish tinge is caused by a single defective optical adjustment gimmick.

drop me an email to the dpr yahoo address we've used in the past and I'll make sure that you're not dumping something that might actually have a chance to be repaired for reasonable cost. Projection units are of course becoming obsolete, but that doesn't mean you can't snag some decent value.
