KSNV
If you or someone you know stayed at the Aria Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, you might have been exposed to Legionnaires’ disease.
Aria officials began notifying patrons who stayed at the hotel from June 21 to July 4.
Officials with the Southern Nevada Health District are asking the hotel to send letters listing the symptoms of the disease, which is a form of pneumonia.
Southern Nevada Health District spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore said six former patrons came down with the disease in cases that ranged from December 2009 to April 2011.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the disease can cause death in up to 5 to 30 percent of cases. However, the disease, which is airborne, can be treated successfully with antibiotics, and healthy people usually recover from infection.
The Aria set up a section of its website to explain the situation and the facts behind Legionnaires’ disease.
