I went into a 90 day treatment program after I started blacking out. I was a few blocks away from getting on the interstate and my BAC was .288
had a good friend leaving for the marines and was at his going away party. never would've thought i could've went away myself. totaled a car and it took my just under 2 years to repay my debt, straighten out my shit and I did promise I would re-enroll in school.

might've been the best thing I ever did. if i never started drinking i'd prob be a millionaire at my age

Yep - VA Hospital in New England - 30 days in early 1990 have not had a drink since...Of course it took a lot of work after release from rehab like 700 meetings in my first year sober. Had a great sponsor I found the night I got my 1 month chip (rest his soul) back then also...I have told my story at 100s of open meetings...

<><>Congrats Wil!!! 35 yrs next Mo. 8/21/76! Also my Gransons BD!!
My story is a strange one, (aren't they all)? One of the many reasons I believe in a "Higher Power", is that one of the accepted versions of insanity is "performing the same act over & over & expecting a different result". Well that was me, get drunk go to Detox, sober up or go to treatment & then get out & do it all over again. Too many times to count, at least 3 times in the Mpls VAMC. But the last time my GF who is an RN, & who I met in Detox, took me to a place where she knew the Director & w/o me knowing asked him to keep me longer than the mandated 72hrs. So when I did get out @ least I wasn't in WD. To make a long story short, NOTHING was different that time than had been countless times B4, I had $$, car, etc., but for some reason this time I didn't immediately get bombed. Then all of a sudden I had a wk, then a mo., a yr, and now 35. God bless all you who are still active, there is ALWAYS hope. I've spoken to many groups Hazeldon, Work House etc., my msg is always the same, "If a street drunk like me can do it, so can you"!!

think it was 3 that i went to.maybe 4...never ever thought i could quit...17 yrs without any booze..several times a yr i get with the cousins and might have a toke or two of maryjane..its really not my thing and never been a problem..i sometimes crave a good cold can of beer but when i think it all the way through it just aint worth it..the freedom i have from booze and cigs means everything in the world to me..still go to an occasional aa meeting and share my experience, strength, and hope, with the kids...
