Are you a bullshiter? Can you sell pretty much anything thrown at ya?

Me, don't think I could. Always had someone else go out and do the selling for me. I would work a few bridal show and chat with brides, but really, what they seen and tasted is what they got.

I know some with a gift to gab.....cough, Douglas. lol From the little I met of him, he seems like he has the gift of bullshit, not in a bad way. Very likeable guy.

So, can you sell?

Speaking of watches. I wore mine to the beach, got a little salt water on it and it is tarnished now. I about sold it for $500 to a guy at the craps table.

I need to get me a new one, save this one to bum around in

Wouldn't want to. Peoples bullshit is why were in the situation were in today.

Better off selling something that you personally stand behind, and understand.

People who say they are great bullshitters are full of shit. Have been in sales for a long time. The key to be a a great s lales person is having the ability to communicate on the level of the person you are dealing with. Whether a CEO or custodial engineer.

People do business people they like, people they know, people the trust and people they are comfortable. The key is having the ability to ingratiate yourself with your customer. Same as picking up chicks.

Agree 100% with this! People buy from people they like without a doubt. I have been in sales my whole life and have always had success because I really feel like I can relate with everyone.

I can but I choose not to. If it's something I believe in, it's easy for me to express value in the product and get the customer excited. That said, being in sales is awful, I've never enjoyed it.

have sold for the last 30 years and it is much easier to sell something you believe in, but have sold shit to people also.

B10D - you hit it on the head perfectly.

As a bill collector, I had to "sell" the debtor on the idea they needed to pay their bill. Doing sales & marketing work now as the agency owner I need to sell the "c" level executive that they need to place their accounts with my agency.

Believing in what you sell also is big in my opinion.

i'm a good salesman, but it's because i can identify customer's motivations and needs/wants - if you can do that, it's all about providing value. it's important to remember that value and price are completely different things. could i sell something that i don't believe in? probably not very well.

ok, another dumb question. What did you think you where going to get, 'nope not a clue, wish I could though'. Then Big10 comes in and states the obvious and guys are like, exactally. I used to like your posts (don't know you as a person) but these questions are getting pretty sad...

In 1991 I was a few credits shy of my degree and needed some quick money to get thru the last classes. I had always sworn the LAST job in the world I would ever do would be sales. But I saw an ad suggesting good pay to sell to big ass C-band satellite dishes to people who wanted satellite TV. These are the BIG dishes... like 6-8 ft wide or whatever they were. My first ever sales call on my own was waaay out in the boonies presenting to a young couple where there was no cable service. I get invited in the house and while I'm sweating thru the pitch when the dude pulls out his shotgun ..................... and starts cleaning it. I was on my toes ready for any weird shit, but i also kept my cool. He was measuring my cool with that move and at the end said he was buying b/c he trusted me not to F him over. I got paid, finished my classes, got my degree - and have been in sales for the last 20 years.

This is exactly true. You need to be able to form a needs analysis, and figure out what it truly is that drives the person and then show them why they need it and how they can have it. But if its not something they need, or not a fit, a good salesman will let them know it is not for them, rather than bullshit (although that is the "reputation"). People buy off who they trust, and you have to be honest to get clients to come back to you, refer you, talk about what you help them to own, etc.
