I don't really follow it. Why are there nine players on the final table? Is the the maxiumum number of seats at any poker table?

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The final nine players in the World Series of Poker main event, as determined Tuesday night after an eighth session of no-limit Texas Hold ‘em at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The finalists emerged from a field of 6,865 players and will compete Nov. 5-7 for the tournament’s top prize of $8.71 million. Ninth place will win $782,115, to be paid Wednesday; higher finishers will win at least $1,009,910 and be paid the difference from ninth-place money in November. Players are in order of their seating arrangement at the final table.

That's the way the WSOP is set up. Actually, they were playing 10 at the table last night to determine who would be the last person eliminated thus leaving the November 9.

Thanks Ted. I suppose the IRS allows you to declare yourself a poker player as an occupation. With the exception of the 49-year-old, this would be closer to a frat party than a $1 million tournament. Like any sport, you have to be young to be good.

Yes! The game has really changed. 8 of the final 10 were in their 20's.

Lets go Giannetti!
Just found yesterday he's from about a half hour away from where I live in NY.

From what I have seen Lamb seems to be the man to beat, but a lot can happen leading up to November 9 and also lots of time to study the other players, etc.

Definitely rooting for Lamb. Really wish Negraneau or Cunningham had made it.

Oh ya that was pretty bad..i really can't find any way to justify this call.. I guess he could say that he was fairly certain that the guy had 99 1010 or JJ and was willing to gamble with 2 overs but thats a severe stretch..Hard to see how someone could make it that far and then make such a ridiculous error..its a shame

I think the Czech takes it down. He just seems so calm, cool, and collective at the table.

For sure it's going to be a good final table, and Let's go Giannetti!

I'll wager this will hold the title as the youngest final table for a long time.

Interesting age/chip count distribution.

The three young guys (22, 21, 22) with the short stacks followed by their chaperone (49), then four 26-year-olds behind the 35-year-old Czech.

What level did you make it to buddy?
After playing for 3.5 weeks I decided it wasn't in my best interest to play the ME. I'm not quite sure I could have handled another week at the tables. The bracelet events are a grind, but the ME is a grueling grind. Next year I plan on getting there for the start of the series, playing for the first 3-4 weeks then coming home for a week leading into the ME.
