Is it safe to say that if the Phillies get Carlos Beltran there is no point to play the rest of the season?

Here's the latest News on him..... starting from the bottom to the top

UPDATE: Our own Buster Olney tweets Thursday that even the Brewers have interest in Beltran, though it's unclear if they would be able to put together a package of talent the Mets would find attractive ater trading away most of thert top talents in other deals the past few seasons. Perhaps a third team could get involved?
The Rangers have interest, too, tweets Ken Rosenthal, but they have their sights set on pitching first and foremost.
...
UPDATE: The Mets would not be opposed to deal Beltran within the NL East to Philadelphia or Atlanta if those teams offered the most in return, reports Peter Botte in Thursday's NY Daily News.
--
UPDATE: The Red Sox have made their interest in Beltran known to the Mets, but so far are unwilling to part with the type of top-tier prospects New York GM Sandy Alderson is seeking in return, reports Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com
--
UPDATE: Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports Wednesday a Beltran deal could get done "well before" the July 31 deadline.
--
UPDATE: Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday that the Red Sox and Phillies are the most aggressive clubs in trade talks for Beltran.
...
UPDATE: With Beltran's salary a possible issue for potential trade suitors, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney wrote earlier this week that the Mets are willing to pick up the money in order to get a better return. Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com adds Tuesday that the Mets are willing to cover Beltran's remaining salary because they are demanding top-notch young talent in return.
There is an additional incentive to get a deal done. Beltran's contract prohibits the Mets from offering him arbitration, meaning the Mets cannot gain picks in next year's draft if Beltran remains through the end of the season and then leaves.

I would disagree with this comment and I am a Phils fan. They need to get healthy and get their complete bullpen in tact. That being said I would love to see Beltran hitting behind Howard.

Healthy? Who Polanco and Lidge, I'd leave Martinez at 3rd for the rest of the year the guys a stud, with the starters going 7 to 8 consistently they only need bastardo, stutes, perez, and maddson back there. Lidge and contreras if they can do anything when they get back are just a bonus to an already solid pen. Think about it come playoffs there gonna have holladay going 9, lee, hamels and I say Worley going 8 with bastardo or maddson closing it out, put Oswalt in the pen and all they are missing is a guy to bat behind howard. If Carlos Beltran goes to the phillies, mark my words its over.

Ezdoesit- If you or anyone else, thinks the Phillies want a "old broken down", "troublemaker", who has proven he is not a "team player", who thinks like his agent, he is worth more than he is, I suggest you think again. The last thing the Phillies need is Beltran. I do agree that if Beltran goes to the Phillies, it is over. Over for the Phillies regarding the already near perfect team concept they believe in. This guy will be nothing more than a distraction and a problem wherever he lands.

Hey if makes the opposing team throw even 1 more fastball everytime Howards up to bat, I think it will be worth it. Howard who strikes out like its his job, has Victorino batting behind him, and he still leads the league in RBI's. They need someone behind him whos gonna make pitches go after Howard instead of pitching around him. Phillies have a nucleus that can't be raddled, Beltran will not be a leader on this team and if he acts the way you say he will, there will be absolutely no one on that team who will be influenced. They won a Series with Pat Burell, that guy was a huge scumbag he used to smoke boggies in the locker room inbetween innings.

He would be a pointless addition to Bos, they have the best lineup and put up enough runs as it is, they need pitching bad, Phillies need another bat to put them over the top.

Pointless?
They need outfield help, JD Drew has been pissing them off for years, is hitting .221, major upgrade in right field from Drew to Beltran.
Beltran is a switch hitter, high on base percentage guy, has won a gold glove.

McDonald is a waste, and who knows if Crawford stays healthy.

NY Mets wants kids, so it may cost them a Drew Sutton and more, but pointless? Hardly, Beltran is a perfect fit.

Red Sox with a healthy Bucholtz, Lester and Beckett are more than fine, they don't need pitching.

When you say Martinez is a stud at third you have lost all credibility. As far as Worley, he won't see the mound as a starter if he is even here.

Don't need credibility from a phillies fan who doesn't appreciate what Martinez has done, everytime he's up to bat in a tie game or the phillies are down he gets a rbi, a triple, guys a stud, brought his BA from 160 as a Utility to 240 playing everyday. He is someone to watch for in the next few years, he needs to be an everyday player don't care where they put him, he's a STUD

So wheres he gonna bat in Bos lineup 8th? Come on you can't have 9 guys hitting 280 with 30 homers that would be redic. N the key word is Healthy, a 3 man rotation eh?

Miller is 4-1 as a #5 starter, the earned run average will come down as he gets to know the league more, he's just 26 years old, and he came over from a crappy Marlin team.
Wakefield is an innings eater.
No confidence in Lackey, he can throw a five hitter and the next start not get out of the fourth inning.

You put Beltran 5th or 6th behind Youkalis and before Crawford, so you got righty, switch, lefty 4-5-6.
Sit Drew, have him pinch hit

i would have no problem with beltran coming here..as far as miller goes..he wont keep the e.r.a. dropping when he walks 1 per inning
